Not sure if any of you guys or girls have experienced the same, in your travel plans. A buddy of mine is heading for Cancun in a few weeks. He booked a month ago and is paying around $2300.00 taxes in for 1 week all-in, nice hotel, single to a room. I'm planning to meet him, so in my searches, online and at agencies, I find the same package discounted to 1268.00 plus taxes. When the booking is changed to reflect the "single supplement"(which I understand) the price reverts back to $2100.00 plus taxes. My only reaction was, "talk about getting hosed". The travel agents I saw reacted the same, but said there is no option. My feelings are it is not the money, since I'd be happier to pay an extra few hundred and take someone for free, but give me some sort of break if you are discounting it anyway. I did consider abandoning those plans and going to Cabo at the Riu, but my buddy is great to party with and creates a following wherever he goes so I know it will be an awesome week. If I wasn't suffering from vacation deprivation, I'd hold off. Any comments probably won't fix the "single supplementitis" this time but for the future, what packages, tour co's etc, acknowledge the large single population out there? Sure one option is finding a travel buddy but, hell, everyone my age is still raising families, in and out of relationships, tied up with fulltime work and needs to book holidays 6 months in advance, or just plain can't afford it.
