OK, the team is about 1/4 of the way through the season and here my thoughts on their performance so far this season. I based my grades on my own opinion of their play to date (except Nonis and Vigneault) in addition to their status on the team and their salary.

Dave Nonis C
Alain Vigneault B+

Roberto Luongo B+
Dany Sabourin C+

Mattias Ohlund B+
Sami Salo A
Willie Mitchell B
Kevin Bieksa B+
Lucas Krajicek B
Rory Fitzpatrick D
Luc Bourdon C-
Alexander Edler B-
Patrick Coulombe C+
Nathan McIver I

Henrik Sedin A
Daniel Sedin A
Markus Naslund B+
Taylor Pyatt A+
Brendan Morrison D
Jan Bulis D
Ryan Kesler C-
Trevor Linden C-
Alexandre Burrows B
Matt Cooke F
Josh Green C+
Tommi Santala C-
Marc Chouinard D

Your thoughts?

Anyone else here think that we would have been way better off in signing Ruutu and getting rid of that piece of shit Cooke?

And once again, who was going to take Cooke anyway? Would have been great
to get rid of him in the Luongo trade and keep Bryan Allen or Auld and give up
a pick or forgo Krajicek.

What's good about the 'new' Canucks is they play like a team ...

what's bad is that they are just not scoring enough to win
... Luongo is keeping them competitive most nights,
so if they could get anyone from the second line down
to score even one more goal (like last night when Mo scored) then they
would win these close games.

the only ranking i disagree with is Burrows ... great speed, has some
enthusiasm, tries to make plays happen, will get physical but just can't
hit the net yet ...

As for over-paid, underachieving:

Naslund ... makes as much as Luongo ...
Cooke ... should be writing refund cheques ...
Chouinard ... 4th line? 4th line?
Kesler ... this is the future? future Mrs. Cooke ...
Bulis ... has he even been playing?

Surprises!

Coulombe and Edler ... sure they got spanked by the Ducks,
but have played pretty well nonetheless.

Ving's desperate to get some production and is trying anything ... and
most of it is not working ...

last year the nucks had one scoring line (the Sedins) and one 'threat'
line (Mo-Nas-Buttoozi) and the occasional lucky bounce ...

this year they got nothing ... nada ... zilch after the top line.

and even WORSE, tons of overpaid garbage to haul around ...

They should sit Cooke out every game as a healthy scratch and
let him stay home ... I think his shitty attitude impacts the whole
team and he's not producing so leave him home.

I think they should have sat the entire team last night.

I can't sit through a single fucking game regardless of what teams are playing (thanks Bettman you little fucktard) but I'll give it a crack....

Dave Nonis C- (kudos for the Luongo trade but the Bullis, Chouinard, Mitchell signings aren't so shit hot...would have been way worse if he signed that dog Carter)
Alain Vigneault B (good mark considering the plumbers he was given to work with)

Roberto Luongo B (he'll be fine, lots of fluke goals off his d-men etc)
Dany Sabourin D (back to the minors)

Mattias Ohlund B (he can do better)
Sami Salo B (ditto...and he'll be gone at year's end)
Willie Mitchell D (fucks up way too much for the $$$...look at that first Detroit goal, too much putzing around on his part)
Kevin Bieksa B+ (far exceeding expectations, still making some boners but way better than expected)
Lucas Krajicek B (ditto...what a steal, I'd trade him even up for Allen any day)
Rory Fitzpatrick E (dead weight, another dud signing)
Luc Bourdon D (not quite ready...like him but would have loved to see a Bourdon and others for Brule deal)
Alexander Edler I (wasn't here long enough, better than Fitzpatrick though)
Patrick Coulombe I (ditto...but may be too small)
Nathan McIver I (who?)

Henrik Sedin A (1/3 of the franchise)
Daniel Sedin A (ditto)
Markus Naslund B+ (tons of chances, playing D, blocking shots....would shut people up with a few more goals)
Taylor Pyatt C+ (this year's Carter...not much without the twins)
Brendan Morrison D (benefit of the doubt due to surgery)
Jan Bulis E (horrible...thank Christ it's only 1 year deal)
Ryan Kesler D (still has jam...like him but not at $1.9 mil)
Trevor Linden D (stick a fork in 'em)
Alexandre Burrows D (doesn't score and was struggling on the PK)
Matt Cooke F (what the lowest you can give someone....useless piece of shit especially at $1.5 mil)
Josh Green C (doesn't help but doesn't hurt)
Tommi Santala E (complete waste of 1 way deal...Rypien or Grabner should be here instead)
Marc Chouinard E (horrible, horrible signing...should have signed Yanic Perreault)

Smother

All of this is a waste of time!! Well maybe not the grades because the end results will be that they don't make the playoffs this year! Count on it and watch!! I called it all summer long on all of my previous posts that they won't go anywhere this year!. They got rid of all of these players and recruited half ass players at best with the exception of Luongo!!. They have no offense that can score more than 2 goals consistantly! Look at Carolina.....the ducks...and especially Buffalo!! Look at their offense!! Hell I'll even put Toronto in there too. They've been scoring as well!!

I think nonis has done a good job with what he was delt with. the only thing i dont like what he has done is signed so many AHL players (at most) too one way contracts.

All you people cant rally expect much from the canucks this year, they have 14 new players this year. if they make the play-offs they will be a 7 or 8 team. and most likley be bumped in the first round.

i don't think they will make it that far ... too much dead weight, and the guys
who are making an effort (Naslund + Sedins) are going to burn-out soon
and the losses will just start stacking up.

Nonis needs to do something to shake up this team, but he has almost
no options ...

I wouldn't be surprised to see a coach fired soon ...

I agree Nonis has no options, but he did last year. Instead of resigning Naslund he should of let him go because I'm pretty sure he knew he was going to get rid of Bertuzzi anyway. He could of picked up 2 or 3 free agents for the money he gave Naslund and at least had some balance. Naslund doesn't actually embrace being the captain anyway this would be the second year for the guys they signed instead of Naslund and they would be feeling that much more comfortable.....they are rebuilding anyway and won't be making any serious runs anytime soon.

I think Nonis made some mistakes with his free agent signings. Seems like he's trying to make a model from a Calgary or Minnesota team where its very defensive but little offence.

when buttoozi was around he made cooke look good in comparison ... now cooke is
just stinking the place up something awful ... no goals, no assists and
i noticed he was doing a swell job of screening Luongo on one of the goals!

this twit should be sat until he quits.

The scary thing is the Canucks seem to be getting worse as the season progresses. The first 16 games even when they lost they at least kept the scores close giving themselves a chance to win, their worst loss was by 2 goals and it only happened once. I figured as their young players got some more experience maybe they could turn a few of those close losses into wins. Now in the last 8 they've been beaten badly 3 times, 2 6-0 losses and the 4-1 loss the other night.
