    Can you get into chat?

Easy question, no need for replies, Just try and get in and then register yes or no.

To the ones who have said no (and not poking fun at any one) Try the red "chat" button at the top now.

Day 147 without chat: have started talking to myself again,
but my alter-ego keeps interupting with stupid questions about
persecution while his alter-ego says paranoia is a sign of insanity
except his alter-ego says he has a chip in his head while his
alter-ego keeps asking who brought dip for the chip.

hoping mod fixes this soon ...

Given that most people can get in, it would appear that the problem may be at the user end.

It would help those of us with some technical understanding if those who have the problem would post specifics. What do the messages say, When do they come up. What OS & which version, which browser etc.

Expecting the answer to magically come down from above seems hopeless to me. This board has many talented people and it seems silly not to tap into that resource.

Personally, I have not had problems (with chat) using IE6 and IE7 under Windows XP. And I'm pretty sure Firefox worked too (though I haven't used it in a while).

    sure, blame the victim!

using firefox, all up to date: also winxp, all up to date: zonealarm
for firewall, antivirus, and spyware, all up to date: crap like netmeeting
    and messenger have be deleted.

    message is the same:

Login failed - you must log in from the review board message board.

I'm set up similar to you. I almost never go into Chat (I'm the dark, quiet brooding type ). But just for you, I tried a few minutes ago. To my surprise, I didn't have any trouble at all getting into Chat and posting a test message.

There must be something somewhere in your settings that is stopping you from getting in. There seems to be a fair amount of ActiveX flying around. Do you have ActiveX loaded/enabled? Check to see if it's blocked in your browser options? If not, you may want to try that. I'm no computer nerd so can't really help you out here other than to confirm I had no problems getting in using a laptop, Windows XP professional, zonealarm, etc... And I don't have Messener enabled either.

    Good luck.

    Norton Users

I have Norton Firewall & Systems works on my computer.

The only way I get into CHAT is ..

Right click on the Firewall icon in the tray.
    Select "Disable Norton Personal Firewall"
Up pops a window ... select 5 mins
Log on to Chat using Pink CHAT button
Once you are in the chat room ... Right click on the Firewall icon in the tray.
    Select "Enable Norton Personal Firewall"
You are now in CHAT and also have firewall protection.

I get the same message as Lonely Ghost.

I also tried what Jaman did, both hitting the red/pink chat button as well as trying to get in via spchat.com (the link on the main PERB page) and had no luck.

As a side note, I also get booted out of PERB at times. I can go to a thread in, say, Winnipeg reviews and it asks for my ID and password???

I try to log in again and PERB doesn't accept my ID/PW and I can't view any of the review threads. I can usually come back in a bit and have no trouble getting in.

    Norton Licks Balls

I get same message as LonelyGhost but as with Jaman50 the problem was Norton. If I disable Norton Internet Security I can get into chat, then enable it again. Whenever I have any computer problem, it's usually Norton. It sucks big time.

I also sometimes get booted from PERB for no apparent reason like Azcanuck and can't sign in again unless I disconnect my internet connection and reconnect.
