Just curious what they like to use and whether the guys agree.

How common does breakage, slippage etc occur?
Favorite colour, flavor? I know one sp that uses a red one when she's having her period and working, lol, a novel idea

the red one when she's having the period, so clients can't tell after the withdrawal...

Every time I see a red one that's the first thing I think of! Honestly, I'd prefer any color but red. It's one thing to know beforehand that she's on her period, quite another (to me anyhow) when a girl tries to pretend she's not or hides it not very well.

condom breakage and slippage

Although people fear that condoms may break or fall off during use, studies indicate this rarely occurs when condoms
are properly used.15 It is also important to note that not all condom breaks are equally risky. As many as 24 to 65 percent
occur before intercourse and pose no biological risk of pregnancy or infection if a new condom is used for intercourse.16

FACTS IN BRIEF

• A study published in the American Journal of Public Health observed female sex workers in Nevada brothels, where
condom use is required by law, and found that of 353 condoms used by the sex workers during the study, none
broke or fell off during intercourse, and only two (0.6 percent) slipped off during withdrawal.17
• Studies have reported breakage rates during vaginal intercourse ranging from zero percent to 6.7 percent.
Most studies report that condoms break less than two percent of the time during intercourse or withdrawal.18
• Condoms fall off the penis in 0.6 percent to 5.4 percent of acts of vaginal intercourse and may slip down the penis
without falling off in 3.4 percent to 13.1 percent of acts of vaginal intercourse.19
• Breakage rates during anal sex for gay men in four prospective studies ranged from 0.5 percent to 12 percent, with
rates less than two percent in three of the studies.20

Apparently they have done studies in Nevada Brothels!!!

Double bag

I thought SPs would prefer to double-bag men, like groceries, if they could. Whereas men would prefer as thin as saran wrap if they could.

no to double bagging!

I seem to recall something in sex ed. that said it's more likely to cause a rip.. Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure.

Ok I'm going to attempt to drag this back to a serious discussion (you listening LA ;-)

I have to admit I am terrible about knowing anything about which condom feels the best, I've always relied on the lady to provide whatever she wants, a shameful behaviour on my part. Plus I bet I might like condoms a bit better it I tried a bit harder to find ones that felt better on me... so treat me as a neophite, what should I know???

"Beyond Seven" from Okamoto in Japan. You can get them online from Condom Sense if you don't have a local specialty shop that carries them.

Crown Skinless from the same company are as comfortable, but every SP who's tasted them hated the "flavour" they use. (Smells like cheap imitation strawberries or something.)

Both are super thin, transmit more heat than usual, and are overall the most comfortable I've found.

P.S. Apparently heat transmission goes both ways. A few have asked about the brand after they had a moment's panic (they thought it had slipped off because of the extra heat transmission.) Now if there were only a way to take care of wetness without creating slippage...

Re: Non-latex condoms

Little Alex said:
Something that hasn't been discussed here is that may women (and men) have an allergy to latex.

Although they are very expensive, the Avanti brand of non-latex condoms is very comfortable and has several advantages over the typical latex condom. They're larger, and a bit loose, which increases sensation.
Try those with a "real" GF first, just in case. The looseness is more comfortable in theory, but I found it also meant the occasional wrinkle -- rather irritating and almost painful if it happens in the wrong spot and/or at the wrong time. I also found slippage to be annoying, and had two fall off (out of the six I'd picked up to try. Not a good ratio -- not good at all!)

If the SP's been using latex-safe lubricant, it has a high chance of breaking down the polyurethane of Avanti's. The reverse is also true. You should pick one or the other and stick with it all day (unless she's douching like a fiend to make sure very last trace of lubricant is rinsed away.)

The bright side would be the amazing level of heat transmission. Just short of thermal transparency...

Great thread.... I appreciate the feedback on condoms as it helps me know what to reccommend when asked. A great site for a huge variety - including 55 custom sizes and a sizing chart you can download and print... watch out for paper cuts - is condomania.net. They have made some great advances in sensitivity.

Shields used to feel really good until that line got bought out by Ansell and now they're just the same as the other boring big names.
So that's what happened to them! They used to be one of my favourites, but the last pack I'd bought let through all the sensation of a PVC pipe...

female condom - anyone tried it?

Hey, has anyone tried female condoms??? let me go grab one for the name....

Ok, Reality FEMALE condoms.... Designed for women.

The last female I was dating introduced me to these... ( well, she used it ) and we both agreed the pleasure is much great for both... and almost felt like nothing was there....

They are $5.00 each.. but what is $5.00 when you are paying lots already for a F/S

I found these links in a search with google....

http://www.emory.edu/WHSC/MED/FAMPLAN/reality.html << link for pictures and info....

http://www.womenfightaids.com/reality.html

When we discovered early on in the epidemic that HIV is a preventable disease the solution seemed, if not simple, at least clear: get the message out that HIV can be prevented if condoms are used every time we engage in high risk activities like anal or vaginal sex.

The gay men's community responded swiftly by organizing workshops, community forums, condom distribution and developing educational campaigns promoting condom use as a risk reduction strategy. By the late 80's infection rates had leveled off.

For women it is much more complex. General population campaigns urging heterosexual men and women to use condoms flourished, but failed to recognize the social barriers women face when negotiating safer sex.

Now infection rates have leveled off in gay male communities, while they continue to rise among women. Indeed, infection rates are rising faster among women than any other group.

So why is negotiating condom use difficult for women? Simply put - condom use requires a man's consent.

When violence or the threat of violence is used to control women's lives, condom use is dangerous to negotiate for many women, more dangerous than HIV itself.

Women are taught that our sexuality is something that exists for the pleasure of men. To be sexually assertive or self-confident is threatening to many men, and women are punished through derogatory labels, physical violence, or both.

Also, women are biologically more susceptible to HIV infection than men - transmission from an infected man to a woman is easier than from an infected woman to a man.

An ideal HIV prevention method would be one women control and can use without their partner's knowledge. Such a method doesn't exist. But there is a new option available to women: the female condom (FC). It is the only woman-initiated HIV prevention method on the market and is now available in Canada..

Marketed under the brand name REALITY, the FC looks like a male condom, only bigger. It is a polyurethane pouch with an inner and outer ring. The condom lines the walls of the vagina and covers the cervix. The inner ring holds the condom in place and the outer rings hangs out of the vagina about an inch.

The condom can be inserted hours in advance. Oil-based lubricants don't break down polyurethane, which is thinner and stronger than latex and conducts heat better. There are fewer complaints of discomfort from male partners, and some women report increased sexual pleasure because the outer ring provides added stimulation to the clitoris.

Drawbacks include: The FC isn't very "sexy". It's quite noisy. And it is visible, so it can't be worn without a partner's knowledge.

Without a doubt, the FC's biggest limitation is its cost. Packages of three cost $12 - $15: 3-5 times more than male condoms. This makes it unaffordable for most women.

While sexual health and AIDS educators are excited about the female condom, many are reluctant to promote a method women can't afford. Plus, few community agencies and health clinics can afford to distribute samples even at the reduced rate of $85 for 60.

The makers of the FC insists that the price to the public sector is the lowest they can afford for small orders. In a meeting with the Women's Outreach Network of Toronto, the Female Health Company and their distributors, Pharma Science, said the cost to community agencies could be reduced for large orders. But, until our local public health departments make its distribution a priority, mass orders are unlikely.

The female condom is an important alternative. As infection rates are rising among women, the Public Health departments have a responsibility to make access to the FC a priority.

The development of the female condom is a step forward in the prevention of HIV among women, but the Reality is that the female condom won't be a real option until its an affordable one.

Lobby your local health departments to make distribution of the FC a priority.
Lobby government funders to permit the purchase of FC's from program budgets.

Closest thing to bare back....

I have heard that some women are using female condoms for DATY and I am surprised by this. The lube tastes like shit and there are much better options for oral protection, flavored dams for one or flavored condoms cut into a sheet if you cant find the dams.

But for vag and anal sex, the female condom makes perfect sense to me for dudes who hate traditional condoms. They (Reality) can be a bit noisy due to the loose fit inside the vagina, but turn up the stereo and add more lube and you should be fine. Also, the look is a bit strange as the rim and an inch or two of the condom should remain outside the body, covering the labia. The added protection against herps and warts is also a plus.

Any other thoughts from guys who have used them?? I did a research project with street girls and they didn't have much positive feedback so I would love to hear what you have to say.
