State of confusion
At least those of us living on the mainland in igloos don't have to worry about the beavers eating our log cabins all the time like those island folks do!

Not to mention paying top dollar for all that grizzily bear steak that has to be imported from the mainland.

No, no...

... don't listen to these guys... now a guy like yourself , being from San Jose and all, needs to be looking more at a place called Winnipeg!

You'll like it there!

There you are, surfing!

And there is a HUGE lake, just north of Winnipeg, called Lake Winnipeg - it's bigger than some U.S. states!

Nope, Winnipeg is definitely your kinda place!

Soopergrizz and V Julia, remind me not to have you over to any party I'm throwing soon.

I know Americans aren't known for their sense of humour, but you could have let this go for a day at least. Think of the Saskatchewan seal hunting stories we could have regaled him with.

For Califorina Guy:
Life up here is pretty much the same as down there except in the summer. You can't get anything up here after the winter roads break up.

Vancouver gets a significant amount more rain and cloud cover than Southern California, so I wouldn't exactly say their climates are similar. Southern California is considerably warmer in the winter, and you can actually swim in the water.

Now having been to all parts of Canada, I can honestly say that the only difference between the Vancouver area and the colder eastern and Northern extremes of the country is that the igloos are better insulated in the far northern part of the country. The country also seems to be full of self loathing people with inferiority complexes, something that as an American has always been a foreign concept to me.

California guy,

It is not too windy in Vancouver. I have to say Vancouver is the most beautiful city compared to many places I had been including US major cities. There are mountains and oceans which you don't always find in the US.

There is one thing which really bugged me was that especially the guys from the Eastern US, how can they be so ignorant, they thought we all live in igloos and we are always surrounded by ice.

California guy,
I have to warn you though, once you come up here, I doubt it if you ever want to go back.

Don't listen to them Calif Guy - Howie won't steer you wrong!

Stop giving this fellow a hard time gents.

Calif Guy - try Timmins (Ontario), Thompson (Manitoba), Fort McMurray (Alberta) or Yellowknife (NWT). Will change the way you think about winter, bugs, alcohol and Saturday nights. If you are going to move, why not make it an adventure?

If you insist on something more like you are used to, Victoria is OK but a bit slow moving for some. White Rock has some of the best weather in Canada (about 1/2 the rain of downtown, about 70% of Victoria), a great beach with "scenery" and decent places to eat. It is not far from downtown, border etc. That is if, say, Thompson and the Rudy the Raven festival each February doesn't grab your fancy!

Hey, Haven't we crossed threads somewhere before? the mangy hound or TERB perhaps?

Chucking a little manure at Sam is a little difficult as most of the generalities which we like apply to to our neigbors to the south don't really apply to him. Sam actually seems well travelled and better informed than your average American. I would apologize personnally, but Rick Mercer says it much better.

(Note: for any other Americans who may view this thread, before reading, look up Satire.)

Rick Mercer Apologizes to Americans
Note: Satire alert.

On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America.

We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry.
I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but, it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all it's not like you actually elected him.

I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.

I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.

I'm sorry we burnt down your white house during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's Very Nice.

I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but, we Feel your Pain.

I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you wanna have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.

And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this.

We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.

Thank you.

Rick Mercer

I must say I love Vancouver, for nature, weather etc etc, if you want a party town with a european flavour and UNBELIEVABLE pooning ops, go move to Montreal. The weather may suck in the winter and it's WAY too cold, but the SP'd definitely are hot and they suck too! ;)

Laid back there's tons of places, I grew up in Halifax, east coast girls are definitely friendly, a little hard for SPs to really get a biz going if all the local girls are 'friendly'. Calgary's a fun place too, especially during Stampede.

Canada in general is just a cool place to live. But there are some pretty nice places in the US as well, just well... not nice enough IMHO. *shrugs* just love Canada too much! :)

Good luck California Guy, the soon to be CanadianGuy?

Ciao,

Makuro

California guy..

What are you looking for? Good Job oppertunities? Alberta. Fewer imigrants? Alberta, Mountains? Alberta. Cold as F#$% winters.. Alberta. Dry nice summers. Alberta. If you interested in surfing go to vancouver. If you want the least amount of shock to your body during the winter hit vancouver.

Oops, What am i saying? Alberta is full of immigrants.. They just happen to all be from NewFoundland, other parts of Canada.

Canada - where you get funded to protest those who fund you!

HD:

You forgot to ad "and funded by the government to protest against same government and attend highly subsidized educational institutes so you have time to write papers/letters critizing all who pay the very taxes that fund your life".

Sorry, had to get that off my mind.
