Gollum death.

Was this a willing fall (suicide), an accidental fall, or a forced fall?
Can I push him?

That first step is a doozy

Accidental fall, he bites off Frodos finger with the ring on it and in his excitement at getting the ring back he accidently steps off the edge of the cliff and into the fire.

Besides invisibility and long-life

Besides invisibility and long-life, what is the power of the Ring of Power?
If someone has it can't they just kill Sarauman (Christopher Lee)?
Or is that too much plot thinking.

Anyone?

So did anyone actually see the speach? MrG spot might come around to gollum if he did. " MTV if you think this tub of gold popcorn makes up for all we've f*ckin been through, you're all F*ckin f*ucked" or something to that effect.

And Sirlickheralot, you must have read the book recently to be so well versed. I read it in high school and hardly remember the details or the ending but the movies are surprisingly well done. The Belgarion by David Eddings would make a wicked movie too, now that the special effects are so good.

I've read the trilogy twice, once when I was 9 and once when the first movie came out at the theatre. Yeah I enjoy David Eddings too, I've read his Belgariad and Malloreon series.

Ending will be book faithful - P Jackson doing it right

It will end with a battle to regain the Shire - not a monemental battle but a battle that demonstrates how far the hobbits have come.

Mr. G - having read the series cover to cover at least once per decade since the 70's, I highly recommend it for you summer reading project!

recast hobbits with elves

Actually some changes can be good. I didn't think that the books had this Liv Tyler character, or that blonde niece of the King character. The babe factor went up when they brought in Kate Blanchette. All three are easy on the male eyeballs.
All the director has to do is recast the 4 hobbits with 4 female elves. Screw the Shire! Hobbits have smelly feet. Hairy too.

Ouch!

Oldschool:

"I don't think the book had this Liv Tyler character, or that blonde niece of the King character".

Ouch! YES they did. Arwen and the Lady of Rohan are very central in the books and play the identical roles in the books.

I don't mind people making errors about SPs but with Tolkien, we are talking about something important!

No more hobbits or gollums? Really no prequel?

We thought after the 3rd Star Wars film that it was all over. And it should have been considering the JarJarMovie and the flying Yoda movie. After the 3rd Hobbit film, wouldn't the Time-Warner studio demand a 4th, 5th, etc Hobbit film? A prequel? Sort of like the Scorpion King prequel? Just too many Hollywood billions, and no imagination, involved.
