With the departure of Mr. Sheer, the country faces another election, but not one they join in. The election will be the leader of the Conservative Party, and perhaps the leader of the opposition in Parliament. It is important that the correct person is chosen and there is a good possibility that the next person will be our next Prime Minister. I am against Peter McKay for one very good reason. He supported Harper over the current prostitution laws which prevent payment for sexual services, or a "consideration" for those services, as well as certain advertising restrictions. Peter McKay did not stand up against Harper in this matter and protect the rights of Canadians, but let Harper railroad these laws through Parliament. It was very clear that Harper could not stand the Supreme Court decision that was handed down, and strove to overturn it with new laws on the pretense of stopping sexual exploitation. I really believe that Harper was religiously opposed to the issue of prostitution and those were the driving forces that caused this law to be put in place. We are still waiting for an effective challenge to reach the Supreme Court to have these laws overturned, and freedom of women to control their destiny, returned. Peter McKay is just as responsible for all this as is Stephen Harper. Peter McKay must not lead Canada.
Many many people in this country favour prostitution, and for good reasons. I am not going in to that, but we must always remember how the story went around that Harper was putting together a hit team to bring his laws to western Canada, which had pretty much chose not to enforce it. Can you imagine being in a massage parlour when Harper's hit team arrived and overode the local authorities and arrested you. I feared Andrew Scheer for all the same reasons, and did write a thread on that before the last election. I met Andrew Scheer personally, had a short talk with him, and left even more afraid. He is an upright intelligent man, perhaps a good type to be a leader, except that, he reports to a god that is above us all. People with strong religious convictions are known to feel they report to God, not humanity, and what they do and impose on others is in the name of their God, and is therefore OK. We don't need that in a national leader. Quite clearly, the country spoke so in the last election, as Scheer's convictions were a major issue.
I could dislike and mistrust almost everyone in the conservative party because they let Stephen Harper run a one man show. And we have seen the result. The next leader of any political party in Canada must get the message. We are a free people, and we are going to keep it that way. Keep your religion, your bias, and your freedom killing ideas out of our faces. Protect us, sure, but rule us, no! I don't want you telling me how to have sex, with who, when, and face prosecution by providing a consideration for services freely, and happily rendered. Stop forced sexual exploitation, definitely, protect the young and disabled, definitely, but leave the mature and willing alone to enjoy their lives.
