Recycling in BC. Some areas are different.

There is still alot of recyclable stuff the curb side pickup doesn't take. (Mostly I think because they loose money on it to recycle).

Still what goes into the landfills can be better. Styrofoam, plastic bags; since recycling places don't take them these end up in the landfill. So why have recycling anyway?

What I can't put in the recycling, I have to put in the garbage. The garbage cost money (on taxes or individual ), but the recycling material at the curb side is free... Again back to what makes money for the recycling companies.

Paying deposits on containers is such a waste of time for both consumers and business that has to handle the returnables. Just put all the containers all together in the same recycle bin.

The real breakthrough will be when they discover a way to recycle plastic materials that are soiled by food or other contaminants.
BC (well, Metro Vancouver) has one of the most advanced recycling programs anywhere, but even with that, a lot of plastic still isn't recycled because nobody has yet figured out a way to dissolve the components into new materials, while removing those impurities.
I've heard of a few ideas, but nothing on the massive scale that would be needed.
