What should be the next elections issues?

To better the lives of all Canadians, what should be the election issues?

    Bill C-36

Bill C-71 Change it or throw it out. Gun control

Senior Citizen Care- better care and need for better quality trained personnel.

Health care- more doctors and nurses, better universal coverage for everyone.
No fault malpractice suits ( I added this because now more doctors are getting sued for car accidents, because they said their patient was ok to drive and they were not- has something to do with the injured suing/doctors because insurance companies car insurance premiums don't pay for long term care etc, whereas doctor malpractice is larger amount of insurance money...) fucking lawyers again... twisting things up...

Insurance premiums for flood and earthquake.... Jesus my insurance rates have double in the last 10 years because of floods and having earthquake insurance....

Native Aboriginals- get rid of the Indian Act, just make them plain old Canadians and make them pay taxes instead of sucking the money out of Ottawa. I would not recognize their right/claim to be a nation, almost as laughable as Quebec being a nation... They can keep their current lands and pay taxes like the rest of Canadians. I am mostly tired of hearing them whine....

Increase in military spending for better and more airplanes/transports/helicopters. Better and updated equipment tanks and ships. Major overhaul for all maintenance on building etc. OPen 3 bases up north in the NW passage, before China shows up and take our northern resource area from us....

Find the assholes who sent the garbage overseas and send them to jail....the owners not the working man.... We have enough smart people to figure out what to do with plastic waste to recycle or reuse it.. it smells bad.

    Anything else?

Something like 3 strikes and your dead.... 1st time is anomaly, 2nd being stupid, and the 3rd time well the rest of society doesn't have the time to hold your hand while you figure things out....

Sure, I'll add taxation for churches and religious orders. Also better control over social assistance and back to work/ job creation for those on social assistance.
And drug control, drug control, drug control.

Canada has signed treaties with the native peoples, and these treaties have to be respected. The native people did not ask to have their lands and culture taken away from them.

The primary focus for me is, always, the economy.

I'd say the hot button for this coming election will be the pipelines in the west. We need to get the product to the coast in a safe secure method. I have always stated NOT in Vancouver harbour and still have that my own line in the sand. There are plenty of other places than North Burnaby to load > 30 tankers per day.

Also the lack of refineries in BC is a huge problem too. The oil company's closed 3 of the 5 refineries in BC stating we could get our gasoline from Alberta just as efficiently. It should never have happened and if anything, there should have been upgrades to the existing 5 refineries to keep up with the demand.

If any one body is responsible for causing a shortage of Dr's and RN's it would be their own governing bodies. Canada already has streamlined the process for medical people to enter Canada to work in those professions. Assuming that these people are sponsored by the medical people who recruited them.

The Dr professional associations have not accepted many of them due to their own level of requirements that are not applicable in other countries. With RN's, at least their professional associations are doing employment recruiting in many other countries from the EU and in the USA.

No Fault insurance for Dr's? So what happens if one really screws up in the OR and it reduces a patient's life because of malpractice? This would never fly, I hope.

The Chinese are not the ones to be aware of in the Arctic, it's the Russians who have 2/3 of their navy posted in the arctic. They have been fairly aggressive in the north with their resource exploration.

Even if we wanted to go toe to toe with them, it would cost many $B. They have 80 ships posted to the arctic and we have what 10 Frigates and 4 leaky submarines? I agree more investment in air surveillance with choppers and fixed wing are required. Again an expensive proposition that needs to be made.

I am so homophobic, I eat bananas sidewise.

The UN should really have a hands off policy when it comes to the Arctic. Just saying.

My take is any government involvement in social media and regulation is a waste of government time. Unless it is shutting down companies like Facebook and the like. If a person has a concern about privacy don't partake in social media platforms. All social media has done is create a world of narcissistic morons.

Climate change / environmental protection: This is really the ONLY critical issue. What we do (Canada & the world) over the next 10 years determines whether the natural world and civilization lives or dies by the end of the next 100. Period.
This is bigger than any issue by far, and demands changes and sacrifices by society on the scale of World War 2. Survival is at stake, and this is the ultimate national security issue. Top priority, overriding all others.
If we put the climate change deniers in power, if they are allowed to prevent the reduction of GHG emissions and waste more time which the world no longer has, then we don't get any more chances to fix it later.
Get used to drought, famine, flood, fires, storms - disaster will be come the norm for this and every other nation, and you can kiss your precious economy and way of life goodbye. Stop playing political games, the game is fucking over.
Saying "sorry" after the fact to future generations won't mean shit. Your kids and grandkids will only know suffering, and your great grandkids will be corpses, cursed to die young if they are even born at all. Believe it and deal with it, or don't and fucking die.

---> pipelines & the petroleum / coal industry: see above.

---> fisheries / marine protection: see above.

Crime: The pathetic weakness of our laws, our police and our courts is a perennial issue that plagues citizens gets ignored by the Liberals (who do nothing), milked by the Cons (who do nothing), and excused by the NDP (who would do nothing if they were in power, which is never). Meanwhile, the list of crimes which people actually get caught and punished for grows smaller each year. Is this what civil liberties means?

---> Money laundering: see above (and get your head examined if you think we can have law enforcement and financial deregulation at the same time)

---> C-71 & gun control: see "crime". If anything the recent measures are too weak & lenient. The growth of the gun militia culture in Canada is directly a result of the Cons importing US politics (with all its insanity) into Canada. Surprise, surprise, we have cops and civilians killed every year by these "law abiding" nutbars, so let's call them what they are (terrorists) and give them the choice to either be disarmed or destroyed.

---> Anti-terrorism: see above. Count up the number of people killed by Islamic terrorists in Canada, and then the number killed by domestic "patriotic white guy" terrorists, and ... never mind. Destroy them both, since they are so much alike.

Military and foreign policy: Yeah, the military is simultaneously too small and way too expensive. There is progress, but not much. There will be decisions made - but you can count on the Con decisions to be wrong, the Lib decisions to be indecisive, and the NDP to pretend we don't need a military. That's just the procurement side of things.
The other side is what we use all that for - what enemies we have, what wars we do or don't get involved in. Scheer's answer is "whatever Trump or Netanyahu command, we shall obey". Trudeau's is whatever Chrystia Freeland suggests, which is not much different: whatever trend is fashionable within the Pentagon or NATO HQ. In other words, "Russia = BAD; USA = GOOD; Iran = BAD; Israel = GOOD; Syria = BAD; Saudi Arabia = GOOD; Ukraine controlled by Russia = BAD; Ukraine controlled by NATO = GOOD; Wikileaks = BAD; China = change the subject ; India = ??? ". And don't you dare ask why.

So as an election issue I wouldn't expect much on this except a lot of hidden agendas and self-righteous hot air. Meanwhile, the world burns.

Migrants, immigration, and whether you have to be considered white to be treated as a real citizen of Canada. Ohhhhh lookout. The whistles are whistling, the dogs are howling. ARROOOOOOOOOOOOO! I don't expect any truthful debate here, just a lot of butthurt posturing and conspiracy theories.

Big Data, Big Media, little Free Speech, and even littler Privacy: yup, this one's a big issue now. Who gets to control what you say, what you see, and whether you're being manipulated. Also, see dog whistling.

Trade & globalization:How much bad shit should we overlook for the sake of commerce? See Climate change; see crime; see Big Data & Free speech; see military policy & anti-terrorism. Then see a shrink.

Climate change / environmental protection - Yup. AGAIN. There is no escaping this issue, only deluding yourself to think you can.

unless you are going to get rid of 1 billion+ Chinese, a billion + Indians, a few hundred million in South America, Central America, Africa, East Asia

    or keep them in poverty

it won't make a bit of difference

you can't have 7+ billion living like fat Americans

if you were really serious about "man made climate change" you'd be against our immigration system of bringing in a small city every year

or do you think those people aren't going to spew emissions like every other Canadian?

    and

    C-71, facts

law abiding gun owners aren't committing crimes at any statistical level worth talking about, criminals don't register their handguns
    they don't bother getting licences

    they don't care about laws

you want to know what's behind the murder rate?

which isn't an issue everywhere, just Toronto, lower mainland

    demographics

it went down, not due to delusional liberals

but cause the baby boomers got old

    old people don't commit crimes

and now our demographics are shifting

the young are as big a piece of the pie as the baby boomers now

we've had adequate gun control in this country since the 1930's

you couldn't just buy a handgun, you still can't

the liberals stupid gun registry was only for long guns, handguns were already registered before

    it didn't do anything

    it's security theater

    facts, who needs em

    3000 died from overdoses

about the same amount in car crashes, suicides

    but those don't sell

    under 300 from guns

Don't give a damn about C-71. If you want a gun and are a "law abiding citizen", at worst it's more paperwork... boo hoo. Far cry from impinging on freedoms. If that's your biggest worry you're doing well.

As to the rest... I expect everyone is going to want more health care, more infrastructure, more this, more that, while simultaneously demanding lower taxes. Plus ša change...

Every campaign comes down to "give me more, take less." It's just a question of personal taste what you're willing to give up for what.

Legislation ceding enforcement of revenue and taxation to provinces and territories. In effect provinces and territories hire federal government as a general manager of federal government's current constitutional mandate. A step in the right direction to provincial and territorial sovereignty.

Climate change is a sham orchestrated and directed by the United Nations. It's end game goal is a wealth transfer from developed Western Society to 3rd world countries so that they dont develop.

The planet has been around for BILLIONS of years and mankind has been around for a couple of millenia and only partly industrialised for just over 100 years. The science is most definatly not "settled" when it has been proven multiple times that those that say so have been caught falsifying/skewing/fabricating as well as telling outright lies about their so called "peer reviewed" research as well as working with each other to smear and discredit any other scientist who takes issue with their findings/data and most importantly when data etc does not include cloud cover and water vapour into the computer models that predict the doom and gloom. They dont include those factors because they would not get the results that they want....and maybe all of the money that those pigs are feeding off at the trough gets cut off.Throw in the sensationalistic media that just panders to the mantra by calling it a doomsday problem.

Try going to say Thailand or Costa Rica and asking a local there if they are worried about "Climate Change"....yeah I know what the response is.....that person will think to themselves "Is this guy on DOPE".

When it comes right down to it the Planet can shake us off like a case of fleas on a dog.An earthquake here.....a tsunammi there....throw in a typhoon.....maybe a few hurricanes....how about a monsterous wildfire or two....perhaps brutal flooding....thrown in a mudslide and for shits a giggles a volcanic eruption or three of them.People do live in Hawaii and the Phillipines right next to active volcanoes you know.

When it comes down to it Canada needs wholesale CHANGE with regards to Government.Canadians deserve better than POS politicians who after 5 years of service get a solid gold pension plan compared to a guy/gal who works for 45 years and gets taxed to death......and yeah you get taxed when you die over and above the funeral.

In a country that produces 2% of world wide GHG emissions which encompass our entire economy and personal usage of fossil fuels to get by/survive/live......Canada sure as shit should not be fucking over it's own citizens with punitive taxes when a country like China produces far more and gets off easy and does not have to start reducing emissions until 2030.

In short.....Climate Change is a fucking sham.....follow the money.

Storm rider: lesson 1 in presenting scientific claims... citations please.

  15. #15
I wouldn't expect it. Deniers can stare into any amount of unassailable scientific facts, and still claim that it's all false because leprechauns read that to them in the bible, or some shit. Anything except facing the truth, that's their motto.

As for what the Earth can survive, yeah, sure, let's take their word for it, and make no effort to survive ourselves. Nope, let's keep on as we are until we hit that mass extinction "reset button" and leave it all to the cockroaches and worms.

They used to say the same about global thermonuclear war; some of them still do.
