...with his sons fill sand bags for 15 minutes and has to live with the frustrations of security every day. Some of the people working the flood lines are putting in more than 15 hours a day.

Get the fuck out of the way!

It's sad really; that during a natural disaster type situation you want to be partisan. Not going to assume the motivation of the guy in the video; I'll give him some slack as I would assume he lives in the area and perhaps has been affected by flooding and thus a certain level of frustration is understandable. Perhaps these links would be a better way to help out rather than taking shots at politicians.

I'm not being partisan at all.

Politicians of all stripes have a long tradition of getting in the way. I live and work in Southern Manitoba. Flood events here last for weeks, even into months. I've been flooded, evacuated, displaced and at the least, inconvenienced by floods. I have raced to help neighbors protect their property after giving up on mine. I have patrolled dikes though the night in rain and snow, watching for leaks and weak spots. I've watched as dikes have been purposely cut and farm homes and land flooded to save the population downstream. Floods have affected my life and livelihood. If you aren't helping, you are in the way.

Damned if he does and damned if doesn't.
If he doesn't show up people will be bitching about him not being there.
If he does show up people will want him to do something.
If he does something people bitch about him getting in the way.
Not sure what exactly he should do, he can't control the waters like Canute.

I love the North Shore and sympathise with people who have lived there for decades. It has never been so bad as the last few years. Houses built fifty or more years ago are suddenly getting wrecked.
The provincial government in Quebec is probably right in buying out at-risk properties.
Manitoba has a serious problem with big McMansions being built next to flood prone rivers. Unfortunately for us commoners the rich folk have the ear of the premier and will get compensated despite knowingly building in a bad place. Happened last big flood.

Perhaps all these politicians, in their own mind, believe they are helping. Of course they are also doing a photo opp: any high profile politician that has any public interaction is potentially a photo opp. That said; cynicism is almost always not helpful. And more importantly; any individual should do what they think is helpful if they are so inclined, rather than preaching about the potential helpfulness (or lack thereof) of others.

While Trudeau was meeting with victims of climate change in flooded Ontario...

...Andrew Scheer was secretly meeting and colluding with multi-millionaire oil execs living in Calgary mansions.

One of those guys is a huge asshole, but I won't hold my breath waiting for you to decide which.

Part of the problem is climate change, but the other half is the society/establishment. There is one dam in Quebec that is over flowing, causing flooding downriver. The dam is supposed to withstand an 1000 year flood (so its not supposed to overflow in 1000 years). Companies and government buy into that system, so when it actually floods its a disaster.

I'd like to know who designed that system, they sure are wrong about those 1000 year floods and others. I've been to places in Australia where the houses are built on stilts, so living quarters are 10 feet off the ground, in case of flash floods etc.

So if an area has been flooded, rebuild using stilt houses. You can enclose the bottom, but no services would be allow in the down stairs part. Things stored down there would have to be in water proof containers...

Or build house boats, when it floods in the spring you can travel the water ways until it floods next year; and you can make it back to your property...

I can forsee a new industry for Ontario, Quebec and NB, the replacing of houses with houseboats.... So when it floods, people will be going to the cooler to get a beer.....

Personally I would get one of those large pontoon boats; put 2 150 HP outboards on it......

The other side of the story is that people are stupid, they did not think to check to see if they lived in a flood plain, ask any realator, their ready answer is/would be " its a 500/1000 year flood...." The person buying accepts this answear, thinking I'm safe.....

Or maybe they did not build enough dams further up the river system....

The man has a point. It's a crisis, and someone is smiling and hamming it up in front of the camera. I'd be lying if my frustrations didn't take over. I'd probably do the same if I was pissed off and tired too.

Buying/building a house in a 'flood plane' and then complaining when it floods... What part of 'flood' don't folk understand? Not a lot of sympathy from me I'm afraid.

Here in BC....the term flood plane is overused in my opinion.
I live at 3000 feet, and my homestead is classed as flood plane .... When you compare it to Sumas Flats between Abbotsford and Chilliwack that is in places 2 or 3 feet below sea level, it's a little ridiculous.
Municipalities will use the term near any body of water to cover their asses.
Geologically ,my place once had a lake covering some of my land, but that was 12,000 years ago.
When you build ten feet from the Fraser , Thompson, or Chilliwack river, and cry when your flooded out, I have to think what where you expecting?
As far as the man being frustrated, I get that when a half hour is wasted doing media presentations to inform the public of what's going on, and Government windbags ceremoniously sinking shovels into sand.
Both where just trying to do their jobs....one a volunteer....another getting paid to be there.
What struck me was.....if it had been any other politician, would he have done the same thing?
There is an underlying disrespectful attitude towards the man, that is running very deep in our country...nobody seems to take him , or his security staff seriously anymore....everyone likes to get in his face, and tell him what a little shithead he is.

In 2015, people were way too enthusiastic about him. Now the over-reaction has set in.

I was unenthusiastic about Trudeau in 2015, but voted Liberal anyway, for a number of reasons. I don't regret it, but I'm struggling to settle on a party to vote for in 2019. During my life I've voted all over the political map, but damn, this year i seem to have reached the edge of the map without a compass.

The thing about finding yourself without a compass, and your in the mountains.....the best thing to do is build a fire, and wait for the sunrise to identify East with the rising sun.
There may be no answers for a way out....but you now know where you stand.

Look at the bright side of things.

Yes it was an insincere photo op for the disengeneous prick of a Prime Minister who is languishing in the polls. The guy who spoke up well he spoke up out of frustration and being pissed off and he was the only person who had the balls to do so.To Trudeau it was a day out with the kids for 15 minutes of "work".

At least this time Trudeau did not make Canada a laughing stalk on the world stage like he did on his family cosplay fantasy vacation to India. At least this time he was not going on a chopper ride to the private island of the Aga Khan.

This time it was just a pathetic attempt to electioneer at the cost to the taxpayer....yup ol Justin was stumping for votes come the next election and WE had to pay for it.The security/transportation/food and all the rest was paid for by taxpayers. No costs to the Lieberal Party for this .Yup the taxpayer gets the tab for the Prime Minister to try and curry favour leading into an election.

Things could get interesting as we approach the election day in the Fall. Would Libs get help from NDP and or Greens to make a coalition? To be honest, the only time I liked the Harper Govt was when they had a minority and couldn't operate like the obnoxious Dicks they proved to be with Majority Govt.

Scheer as PM? Assuming he will step on his dick and he will; it's not an IF but when.

All of you C-36 Cheerleaders, will you be here calling out Scheer too ?

you forgot to mention he's a Nazi

they're going to revoke your progressive card

the jails are full of guys cause of C-36 right?

every woman is being forced to carry to term too, right?

there are private hospitals on every corner too?

homosexuals are being executed every day too?

did I miss any?

the conservatives are bad

reality, C-36 didn't do anything worth talking about, anymore than the law did before it

and the Liberals aren't going to change it anymore than Sheer will, there is no political upside to it

Harper, well stick up his ass Mckay did, cause the courts forced them to
