Single malt or mixed blends?

On rocks (ice), neat, or the mix you prefer?

Have you tried it at different temperatures? (ice or ice rocks/metal cubes)

What was the taste like to you? Peaty, smooth, woody etc.

No preference on blends or single. But prefer aged 15 years plus.

Most of the times, I take mine neat, or chilled with whisky stones. On the rare occasion, some whiskies open up more when you add a splash of water. Auchentoshan and Lagavulin fall into this category for me.

Honestly, there really aren't bad drinks. But there are bad drinkers.

I agree with the 15 years plus. Some decent 12's out there but you have to work your way through a lot of swill to find them. I tend to stick with single malt, not so much for myself but most of my guests prefer them. For myself, a single ice cube to chill a few ounces does the trick.

Probably my second most expensive hobby;) Blends or single malts are good with me too. My preference is Straight Kentucky Bourbon in recent years any of those are fine with me, Bulleit is nice. Favourite scotch is the 15 YO single malt of Glenlivet.I usually add a single ice cube to get the alcohol content reduced to say 33% alcohol/ vol in the tumbler often i add a cold stone too.

Recently found an ATF in the reasonably priced category (about $85)- Dalmore 12

It’s the lowest priced Dalmore but damn good according to my taste buds

You can spend a pile of $$ on the other Dalmores. The Cambie store apparently has one at $44K ‼ and another at $33K

If someone picks up either of these two please offer me a dram

Go on a trip to Scotland , the birthplace.......it is a religion there.
And the Scotts are hilarious to get drunk with, if your Canadian.

Actually there's been a raging debate between the Irish and Scots for centuries. The name 'whiskey or whisky' is from a Gaelic word dating back to 1000 AD.

Who was first, who knows but these two countries do claim to be the originators. Both have nice and unique flavoured single malts.

Personally I like the single malts from the Scottish Highlands. LCB used to stock Royal Lochnagar and for the price point ($85), it was terrific. Oban still is one of the finest whiskeys I've enjoyed and that includes a few that are $300+ like MacCallan 18 yr old.

For blends Black Label has a nice smoky taste and Chivas blends are good too. Apparently the Royal Lochnagar is one of the whiskeys in Chivas.

One of my favourites is Oban 14 year. I can buy it in California Costco for $48 US. Here it is up to $136 CDN. Makes you want to cry.

JP Wisers and Crown Royal are both fine and good Canadian whiskies. Don't have to get gouged by the liquor board.

I have spent an awful lot of time in Inverness , and the Northern Highlands, drinking whiskey, riding horses, and lifting the sacred Strongman Stones....and I learned a valuable lesson.
If a true Scottish Highlander says they invented whiskey......I'm not going to question him.

Yes also a favorite of mine, just decided to diversify my top 3 LoL.

I'm also back on the Hennessy train, XO and VSOP, and also anything that says anal, I mean Anejo. Sometimes EXTRA Anejo

ps I do most of my pooining before Friday Night Lights because whiskey dick prevents MSOG. Mondays are a particular good day to poon as my body has a few extra days to produce EXTRA MAYO. I'm not drunk as I type this I swear

Recently moved the hutch....
Some great Whiskeys in your collection.

I agree about the 12yo AnCnoc. I like it since it's got the right amount of smokiness and is not too sweet aftertaste.

I find some of the casks that were Sherry Butts sometimes have a sweetness that dominates all the whiskey flavours.
