I started a new thread, couldn't find the old one. It's probably a necro-thread by now anyways.

Daniel Kahneman's Thinking, Fast and Slow. It just arrived from Amazon this morning. I was already in the midst of hemming and hawing about ordering it when another member recommended it to me after a discussion of my Reviewer's Habits thread.

"The Square and the Tower" by Niall Ferguson.

BTW, the square and the tower of his title refers to the town hall in the middle of Sienna.

I'm reading CLAWS OF THE PANDA.....Beijing's Campaign of Influence and Intimidation in Canada. By Jonathan Manthorpe. Excellent. A real eye opener to Chinas Charm Offence. The tentacles of Communism spreading all over the Globe. Highly recommend. Cheers.

Into Thin Air....yes, great book. He also wrote a book about Mormon Church and Founder. Can't recall title. Recommend it. Also, a good read CLAWS OF THE PANDA. China's influence on Canadian policy. Well researched, well written.

Patient H.M.: A Story of Memory, Madness, and Family Secrets.

HM was twenty-seven-year-old Henry Molaison. In 1953, Henry received a radical new version of the lobotomy to try to cure his epilepsy. The operation failed to eliminate Henry’s seizures, but it did have an unintended effect: Henry left the operating room profoundly amnesic, unable to remember things told him even minutes earlier. Over the next sixty years, Patient H.M., as Henry was known, became the most studied individual in the history of neuroscience, a human guinea pig who would teach us much of what we know about memory today. The author's grandfather was the surgeon. Incredible story.

I’m aware of this case study. It’s been discussed in a few of my classes. I thought the bilateral medial lobectomy was successful in alleviating his seizures.

I didn’t know there was a book. I’ll put it on my reading list, thanks for posting.

This is about psychopathy in the corporate world, but I feel it applies to this industry as well. It’s a great read for anyone who wants information on how to spot manipulative behaviour.

No cure for the narcissist/sociopath/psychopath. Therapists who think otherwise are themselves a narcissist/sociopath/psychopath.

The mind can be rewired. Neuroplasticity is proof changes can be made. But I agree it would be very difficult, if not nearly impossible at the present day and age to cure types who are charming pathological liars.

I think in the future, with further advances in neuroscience and neurotechnology, there will be more hope for effective treatment methods.
