On CTV news there was an segment on the Canadian ISIS brides in an Syrian refugee camp.
These women left Canada to be with their husbands in Syria. Now they want to return to Canada with their children. Since they are Canadian citizens they should be allowed to return. I have reservations about that, I can't say if they are victims of the ISIS movement or supporters of it? Or in hindsight blindly stupid.....
In Canada I not sure if there are laws about overthrowing other countries. If there are laws in Canada for this and if the women left to support their husbands; are they guilty of breaking Canadian law? I mean they are in another country supporting someone (their husband) to help overthrow another country. If they come back to Canada do they see jail time (if there are laws against overthrowing governments)?
They left Canada to be with their husbands. Their husbands were fighters and are associated with and supported the torture, raping, and killing of women in conquered territory. Not to mention the killing of men in those conquered territories.
From what I seen of the interviews, the women appear to be intelligent and can make their own choices, but one comment was "woman's duty to obey the husband" speaks to me of religious indoctrination.
One question is if the women were/are ISIS supporters, do they want to come back to Canada and raise future terrorist cells (eg kids pick up on the parents choices) where it will be safe for them ? Or are they sick of war and just want peace of mind and nothing to do with ISIS ever again?
I think alot of Canadians are thinking you made your choice (to go there) and now the women have to to live with the consequences of that choice. To paraphrase " You made your bed, now lie in it".
With an election coming up this fall, will the government make an attempt to bring the women back to Canada, provided they are Canadian Citizens?
I would like to think because they are an Canadian Citizen, they would be given the chance to get back to Canada?
Thoughts?
