All I can say is ask Pam Anderson if she could have gotten immunized against HEP B and I am confident she would have said YES.

Anti vaxxers are tinfoil hat wearing idiots.

Anybody heard of the "backfire effect"? When you simply attack people with unreasonable beliefs they become more devoted to those beliefs. If you want to have any hope of reasoning with these unreasonable people you have work very carefully with them. You have to understand and sympathize with their beliefs then slowly work on their ability to reason and the legitimacy of the material they believe. Not an easy task.

If you're born after 1970, you need TWO doses of the measles vaccine. You can get an MMR booster from any immunization clinic. I got mine at the Vancouver Coastal Health Clinic on Broadway.

There must be a rule now for kids. No vaccination, no public school. That won’t solve the spread in other public places, but it would send a message. You don’t want to vaccinate your kids, you can home school them.

Btw, it’s well documented that Russian troll farms are very active disseminators of anti-vaccine propaganda.

I think they are the home schooled type regardless.

Well said treveller! A message that is so needed now, especially with all the polarization and people living in their own bubbles. A refreshing, intelligent and self aware message!

Usually its religious dogma, sects/cults of Christianity like the Jehovah Witnesses don't believe in blood transfers or immunization. Their kids dying from diseases, that could be preventable is a crime against that child. Just my humble opinion.
If a parent does not want his kid immunized due to his religion what does a school board do? With the Canadian Charter of rights, their religious view should be taken into account, but also the welfare of the greater good.

The long term solution of immunization has not been totally found to be free of problems or controversy. Point in case Autism and vaccinations and Peanut and other allergies, due to the binding agent to get the vaccination into the body.

The longterm effects of Chicken pox is that later in life you can develop shingles... Shingles used to be a 60/70 year old disease, but some people as early in their 30's have gotten shingles due to stress...

Was it measles or mumps that led to sterility in adult males?

Getting vaccinated for diseases is recommended. The vaccination is a weaker form of the disease, and your body's immune system should be more abler to cope with the weaker form of the disease and deal with it (builds antibodies ) before it hits its contagion stage, where other people can get sick.

Emmy love the picture, I know that those are freckles, and wonder when your next trip to Victoria is going to be?

80watts, it's not just "weakened" it's crippled. The virus can not replicate. So vaccines can't ever "reach the contagious stage". They've effectively been neutered but are still recognisable by the immune system, which then templates against it so that it has a head start if it ever encounters the live virus.

I don't know what you're referring to re: Autism unless it's the debunked Wakefield paper. (It's astounding how a single paper could do so much damage.) The Autism-vaccine "link" is thoroughly refuted, and Wakefield was identified to have a financial interest in this disinformation. It's unfortunate that Autism symptoms present around age 2 (councidentally around the same time as a prescribed vaccine battery), allowing some superstitious people to cling to the correlation-causation fallacy.

One theory on the rise of peanut allergies and the like is that it's to do with hyper-cleanliness. Kids on farms statistically get less allergies than kids in cities, and it's hypothesised that it's because the immune system practices. If there's not enough natural contaminants, then the immune system picks on random things instead, resulting in allergies.

Point in case Autism
Good summation by clu.

The autism connection is a lie.
Not a misunderstanding or mistake, it is an absolute lie.
The guy who created it admitted it.
Stop repeating it.

Measles are much worse than people think. Mortality from measles is low but the disease can seriously damage your immune system.

Farm kids do have fewer allergies IMHO....I'm no doctor but I do understand a little about the immune system dealing with animals everyday.
If the immune system isn't tested, it will find something to deal with to evolve within the body, it needs to be challenged.....let your kids eat dirt.

"it's not just "weakened" it's crippled."

My understanding is that it depends on the vaccine. Some vaccines use a crippled virus, some use a killed virus and some use partial virus particles. In all cases it is only small parts of the virus that provide immunity.

The "too clean when very young" hypothesis regarding allergies continues to find more support. The last I heard they were talking about the age at which a child needs exposure to lots of muck.

Six reasons why people are anti vaccination according to

The World Health Organization

I have no idea how I could discuss pro vaccination with people who have these dark state delusional ideas.

Misconceptions

Introduction
"Diseases had already begun to disappear before vaccines were introduced, because of better hygiene and sanitation".
"The majority of people who get disease have been vaccinated."
"There are "hot lots" of vaccine that have been associated with more adverse events and deaths than others. Parents should find the numbers of these lots and not allow their children to receive vaccines from them."
"Vaccines cause many harmful side effects, illnesses, and even death - not to mention possible long-term effects we don't even know about."
"Vaccine-preventable diseases have been virtually eliminated from my country, so there is no need for my child to be vaccinated."
"Giving a child multiple vaccinations for different diseases at the same time increases the risk of harmful side effects and can overload the immune system".

I wonder if this mindset still exists when their child contracts a deadly virus?...and how much they rely on modern medicine to save that little life once a virus is detected.
They are relying on the cluster of humans around them to be vaccinated, so their little plague carrier doesn't get sick.
Having said that....you only hear about the 1 per 1,000,000 that does have side effects....these people never talk about the Billions of lives that have been saved with the use of vaccines, over a very short time period.
We are also talking about a child whom isn't old enough to make the decision for themselves, and has put their welfare and choices in a parent who might be very misinformed.
