Recently went to Mae's for half-hour service. $70, right?

When I paid with four $20s, my SP informed me she had no change. Sorry.

So, she's telling me that she's selling services for $70 all day and doesn't have any $10s for change?

A small thing -- and you can bust my chops for being cheap -- but it's pretty lame to scam me for the extra $10.

Why not just charge $80?

(I will tip for good service. But we all know that at Mae's, there's no above and beyond the rub and the non-touching HE. Other SPs provide all kinds of naked and sexy for $80; but sometimes you gotta settle for Mae's.)

I've experienced this elsewhere as well...always best to bring exact change just in case

Sounds like Bella. I was once 10 minutes late due to traffic, and I was her last appointment of the day and she took the 10 minutes off of my 45 min massage. So I paid the 45 min price for 35 min, due to something outside my control. Haven’t been back. Great way to keep your clients happy and returning again and again.

That happened to me when i went to an agency on Quadra street a decade ago. I needed 20 dollars back and the girl said they carried no change. Really?? an agency that has a lot of customers and no change. "They will get me the next time i come in". Right. That never happened. Since then, i learned to always bring the exact fee. Pus whatever tip you think you will need.

This is on you, always bring exact change. More than once I’ve stopped at a gas station to break bills on my way to an SP, it’s just part of the hobby.

Really. You are pissed off because you paid someone an extra $10 on a $70 tab? That is less than 15% tip. These people provide a service and often put up with a bunch of unappreciative guys. While I understand that the quoted rate was $70, maybe you should just have been happy that you gave her enough to buy a coffee and a muffin at Starbucks while she waits to service the next guy who wants to feel like he is the most important of the day.

However, a tip (in any industry) should be offered, not taken.
It annoys me when a server asks if I want change. Just bring the change and I will leave what I leave. In his case, it was worse than that.
I put myself through uni as a single parent working in the service industry (took me 6 years to do a 4 year degree) and I still consider myself a fair bit good tipper. However, I expect some preofessional courtesy in return.
All that said, I’ve never gone to an appointent without havining the proper amount with variable incremental bills for appropriate tip. I admit to leaving no tip at times and a good tip at times. But I always have proper amounts on me.
So, on one hand, I agree that the presumption of a forced tip is in bad taste, it is also logical that many of these providers don’t exactly have a cash register in their facilities, so use your head folks.

Tips were originally designed for people who make minimum wage so they could supplement their income. So why would anyone tip a sp when they make anywhere from $200 an hour and up? It's a joke to tip on top of it. You certainly don't tip other high paid professionals like lawyers or accountants. And I'm pretty sure that someone getting $70 for giving a rub n tug can afford to buy a coffee and a muffin on their own. The tipping culture is so out of control and really it's there to make you feel guilt if you don't tip

I don’t think anyone is saying being forced to tip is ok (btw working in Victoria costs the working girl a fortune , I get tipped all the time , usually for going over time & above average service) I think all we’re saying is if you really need to stay on a budget , bring proper payment , don’t expect we can make change for you .

Let's just have fun with math here to make a point. The Rub and Tug place starts their day, and three men come in with the exact change. One with a $50 and a $20 and the next two come in with three $20's and one $10. Okay I hope you are following me. The next three come in and not one of them has the exact change. They each come in with four $20's - First two of the second set of three get $10 back each. What do you suppose Mae needs to tell that sixth visitor that day? Do the math. What is really lame is not being able to do simple math and accusing someone of ripping you off.

Pierre... you're making a lot of assumptions as to how customers pay and then accusing imelac of not being able to do simple math. Maybe the first customer of the day paid with 7 $10 bills. And perhaps Mae's is a place that short changes customers in other ways say by providing medicocre service or not massaging for the full time paid.

i could see a independent not having enough change sometimes. But when you go to a agency, i think, they should have a "float" like any other business and have bill sufficient for change as a waiter would. It just makes good business sense. However, learning from the past, i would go to the ATM to make sure i have the proper change. Take out 200 bucks, then you got some 50s and 20s and can make 70 or 80 dollar payments. Plus if its rub and tug, i usually just give them the extra 5 to 20 bucks (even if its not rub and tug). However, if they ask for a tip, then that is what really turns me off and i tend to not go to see those people anymore.

Really? We're still going on about $10. These places don't run a float. Each of the girls collects for themselves and then pays the 'room fee' to the operator. The $70 fee is probably split with at least $30 or more going to the shop and the provider getting at most $40. Would you do this job for $40? The provider gets maybe 2-4 customers per day and waits around for 8-10 hours for you to decide that you want a rub and tug. So, the provider makes $80 -160 for 10 hours work. The hourly wage is not great. I am sure that most of them appreciate and look forward to the opportunity to get an extra $10. And let's not forget that many of these providers at the place that you are talking about come from different cultures where the tipping customs might be different. Just sayin'. It's $10.

Just bring the correct amount of cash.

Now if you want to tip, bring some 5’s, 10’s and 20’s. That way you can give whatever tip you want. $20, $25, $50...

Even with the $70 change, $10 isn’t that big of a tip.

You think they price it at $70, so most people will just bring $80 and say the $10 is the tip.

I agree with the fundamental proposition that experience tells us that the lady may not have change or in some cases may see it as an opportunity to declare that the extra amount be considered a tip. The simple solution is to take the situation out of the providers hands by bringing the payment in denominations that doesn't require change to be provided. The Japanese term of poka yoke or mistake proofing comes to mind.
