Since Mods (rightly) decided to shut the old movie review thread, that I started, it is only fair that I start a new one. (The old one had 35 pages and a few years old so it was losing it's purpose)

Lady Bird

I have to say it is one of the best films I have seen in last year or so. Very well acted, great direction and overall I enjoyed it. It is about relationships and being a parent, I can totally relate to it. It is drama and comedy mixed together very well. In fact, some scenes can be heartfelt and cringeworthy.... I strongly recommend it. 4.5/5

Red Sparrow: Excellent. A tense spy movie that feels very real world and full of danger. jennifer Lawrence is great in the role, does get naked a few times, but its an unpredictable spy thriller

Game Night: Very funny and fast paced, with a bit of heart. Worth seeing

Annihilation: meh. The production values are ace but the movie is vague instead of powerfully artsy. Rental worth or cheap day, only if you like head scratching scifi

I'm looking forward to seeing this one. The trailers look awesome.

Nice to see good female leads in a spy thriller. Like Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde ;) She kicked ass and did her own stunts too.

Loved the Bourne series but time to switch it up a bit IMO.

I watched a great documentary last night on Amazon Prime.

Following on our recent thread about Bombardier vs Boeing.

Check out Airbus vs Boeing: The Jumbo Jet Race

It has a lot of the talking points from our thread.

It has definitely already been released. I'm not sure if it is no longer playing locally but a quick search on tribute.ca would suggest that it is still playing in some Canadian markets.

Not playing locally.

Came and went in a week.

Got terrible reviews from the pros and people who paid to see it.

I went to see Red Sparrow. I just don't get how some reviews are lacklustre. Rotten Tomatoes has a 57% rating. Sure it's longish and yes you need to pay attention to some small details but it's worth seeing. Stellar cast with some nice surprises like Charlotte Rampling, Jeremy Irons and Mary Louise - Parker. Matthias Schoenaerts was great too as a sleazy Russian douchebag. He also played a real sleazy douchebag in "The Drop" with Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini. Type casting :D

This one is a tense well thought out thriller.

I'm not squeamish at all but Holy Crap those torture scenes made me wince.

Can second game night. The pacing was good and the comedy was spot on.

Though some parts did feel like they swiped the induced vomiting bits from It's Always Sunny

If you've got a "date" its worth bringing....80% of the theatre was hooked up like a sailing rig.

I saw Tomb Raider recently. Mostly for Alicia Vikander. She did a great job, its a formulaic but entertaining action adventure movie. Its got the thrills and chases and cool booby traps one could want.

Just saw Pacific Rim...would recommend to download/watch later instead of going to the theatre.

The whole thing felt rushed like a Saturday morning Power Rangers 2-parter, but John Boyega was good along with Charlie Day, who was immensely underused. I swear they're making it a running gag with him speaking Chinese.

There was definitely too much Chinese shots at Japan though....killing off the OG character and then destroying Tokyo.

I just saw Pacific Rim also like a few days ago! I first saw it on TV and I was like hey this is interesting so I quickly went to my computer to download it with subtitles lol. I really liked it actually! It was awesome, very action packed, very sci-fi. I also liked the relationship between the tall white guy and the little Asian woman, reminded me A LOT of you perberts!

I saw Annihilation at home, just downloaded it, seems like it was on Netflix somewhere in the world because the Netflix screen popped up before the movie started...anyways...it gave a headache, it was so creepy and made me feel gross inside...

Saw Game Night and enjoyed it...went because of how much I enjoy Jason Bateman in both comedy and dramatic type roles and wasnt disappointed. Also saw "Three Billboards"..thought it was average, no where near Oscar material.

I, Tonya

If only 50% of this film is true, it's a very disturbing story.

I never really followed the Tabloid news when it was happening and my eyes were opened to her story of mental and physical abuse by her mother and husband. Tragic because she was a top skater til those around her went off the rails.

Recommend because every part is so well portrayed.

I just saw this movie as well and was shocked at her mothers behavior. Crazy to think someone could treat their child that way. Interesting movie.
