What's the deal with so many men who look pregnant?

It's really noticeable at the beach, where guys with skinny arms and legs, might have a gigantic, and I mean gigantic pot belly. I understand putting on a few pounds around the gut, but how do you not notice your waist has gone from 32 to 68? Or you can't see your dick, feet or most of the floor?

The other mystifying thing is, some guys I know who look like this aren't ashamed, they actually seem proud of their shape. WTF?

I pity women who have to endure that on top of them.

As an SP, like yvr_hacker pointed out, it doesn't matter what kind of shape your belly is. As long as you are respectful, clean and you pay them, SP's don't care. You should know that, you are a veteran.

If you are talking about their life partners, then people stay in relationships for different reasons. If humans started to dump their partners based on body shapes, how many marriages do you think would last for than a few months.

By the way, I am just wondering, you must be a ripped guy, to say something like that.

I agree- people stay in marriages for many reasons beyond just looks.
Mature people get this notion.
Looks may have been significant in the initial attraction (or not?) but can't possibly be the main driver moving forward.
But of course, looks also help, and we should try to maintain good eating habits and fitness for health reasons. That's what I find attractive in a woman- the effort. Knowing that she is trying. And in return, I also make a strong effort. Results can vary. And not too many of us are perfect.

I'm not wading into the coming flame war, but I think this is a fair statement for many people. The stresses of business life, travel, children, lack of money to buy good food & life in general make fitness very difficult. I'm fortunate, I can get to the gym every day, but my life is not that complex. It's a mix of hacking, education, reading and social life. Further, I'd guess a lot of folks can't afford to eat healthy as healthy food = more money. And, the honest to God truth is fitness IS hard. I've had body fat as low as 9%. Getting there, especially for an older guy, is no easy task. Daily cardio, daily weights, weighing your food, strict nutrition regime, drinking only water or black coffee, sleeping 8 hours, etc. That takes real effort.

I was fortunate that the first 40 years of my life I had to do very little to maintain a decent physique. My career was physical enough, my metabolism very high, and an active lifestyle combined with decent nutrition always kept me in above average shape. The last 10+ years have been more of a struggle. My job description is more sedentary, and my metabolism has changed. I definitely have to make a greater effort- which takes time- which seems less readily available. Hard choices have to be made to accommodate what's important. I feel fortunate that at least I'm in a position to make those choices.
And I too can smell the early smoke of a flame war coming this way from.... Dirtypeg?- or is it just the Princeton and Cache Creek fires drifting down the valley?

Working out like any other thing in life like brushing your teeth is a daily routine. Also just because someone is skinny doesn't mean that they are healthy...right?!

To be fair, women who get pregnant in their mid or later 30s may have lost skin elasticity and never fully bounce back from it. Contrary to all those celebrities with toned abs two weeks after giving birth, that's not normal.

Food with sugar or alcohol can go straight to a persons belly and chest. I have the ectomorph body type, always played team sports. The past 2 years I gradually gained weight to the point where I became the heaviest I've been in my life. This was due to consuming too much processed foods and grabbing a bag of chips if I walked past the chip aisle. I didn't work out only played my team sport once a week so didn't burn it off fast enough. The past 2 months I've cut as much bad food out and started a good workout routine. Results are good down 10lbs and belly is less. As you get past 30 you really need to have the drive to maintain your body type because your body can't break down food as well like in your 20's.

As for be people not noticing for some they reason just don't care or have the drive to do so. To each their own.

Brushing your teeth takes 2 minutes. Working out does not. I used to travel frequently. My life was me driving to the airport, handing in a rental, landing in a city, putting in 15 hour days for a week, then flying back out. Then another 2 hour trip from the airport to my condo in the mountains. I'd get home and I was wiped and tired. And what of the single Mom's who don't have much money & can't afford the child care at the gym? Or the ones without cars. Or men in executive positions (or sales) where the days are long and extend after hours a fair bit. You got a wife, 2 kids and a house to look after and work 60 hours a week it's tough. Further, for a lot of people the cost of a gym membership is just too much sometimes. If you're stretched to the limit financially that 65 bucks might just break you. In a city where a condo is $600K it's not hard ot imagine that.

Skinny doesn't mean healthy but obese rarely means healthy either.
I for one know exactly what it's like not to afford a gym pass but I choose not to broadcast my personal life and or struggles. As far as I know, going for a walk is free but I could see someone struggling who is morbidity obese. Speaking of the gym here I am at the YMCA where many could get an assistance monthly pass throughout Canada based on their income/tax assessment or free membership if you volunteer here.

Any sort of output energy counts but we are our only excuse.

I worked at a desk job as a manager for the most part of my 39 year career.......I have never worked out...found it too boring and truthfully if one does not enjoy something they will soon conveniently forget it.....I was careful what I ate except for the times I wasn't.....I have had friends that worked out everyday and they loved it, I had one very close friend who worked out and believed he should be ripped .....he died 3 years ago from a sudden heart attack due to steroid use according to the coroner.....I have never had a "pot" but was 6'1 280 for a few years....once I got down to 220 with the atkins diet...found my boney ass hurt on longer drives in the car or sitting in stadium seats....I ended up putting 20 pounds and have been in that area for the last 5 years....when I walk down the street I feel good...I don't watch my weight because others may look at me .....I watch my weight a bit because of health now that I am 61 and starting to see issues coming up.....some people must look good for their profession.....and they work hard to maintain themselves to the required level.......i have one co-worker friend who has a HUGE pot.....but he was and is so confident in himself ...he was very open about his own sexuality at work discussions...he had every piece of equipment you could imagine and girls of all ages that called him master....he is 60 and still going strong.....I guess where I am going with this is...we are human...we look as we do for our own reasons or genealogy ....... I also believe in the more extreme weight cases possibly trauma in lives cause disorders.....but for me I just look in my mirror...and let my doctor yell at me lol

I wasn't criticizing you Gia. I was saying our modern lives are sometimes so complex that we can't live the way we want. Yes, going for a walk IS free. But it could be a struggle for someone that is obese. Or it could be dangerous for someone that is poor and lives in a bad neighborhood. You live in Winnipeg, you know what bad neighborhood is. They could have children making going for a walk a little more complex. Now, to predicate, I'm not saying your line of work is easy and trust me, I understand the life of a sex worker. I lived in that ecosystem for years. But it does bring some level of flexibility not afforded to single Mom's with a day job or couples who both work and have kids. The cost of our busy lives is we ingest "convenience food" and the cost of that is our health. It's easy to point fingers at people and say "just work harder".

If you do not want to put up with the expense and hassle of a gym membership, consider setting up your own "mini-gym" at home, if you have the space.

In my basement I have a stationary cycle, chin-up bar, exercise mat, barbell and weights, and a TV.

Three times a week, I exercise for a couple of hours while watching my favorite TV shows. Just simple, basic exercises - push-ups, curls, chin-ups, lunges, abdominal exercises. I also have a computer so I can surf the internet while resting between sets.

In the summer I also ride my bike around town for an hour or two, checking out the babes in shorts and tank tops. :eyebrows:

Now I don't want to brag, but for a 50 year old guy, I think I still look pretty good naked.

That is a myth. Vegetables are a lot cheaper than hamburgers and steaks. It's the choices people make. I've always thought food selection should be taught in schools. Sometimes very poor people are obese beccause their food choices are so bad.

As for fitness, my original point was about belly size way beyond normal, and way beyond what would be considered healthy, and why people don't do something BEFORE they get so large.

As for an earlier comment about me being ripped - no, I'm not - I don't have the dedication, but I like physical exertion, ride a bike a lot and watch what I eat. Common sense. (Although I ate an entire bag of cookies today after spending 4 hours clearing brush).

Saw an extremely obese woman in 7-Eleven in front of the Slurpee machine.
Her daughter starts to fill a Slurpee cup with diet Slurpee.
The woman yells at her that diet drinks are bad and fills it up with regular Coke flavour.
Sure lady, give your kid a liter of liquid sugar, that's real healthy.

Then I go back to work, sitting at picnic table outside with can of diet ginger ale.
Co worker sits down and says diet drinks are crap and I shouldn't drink them.
She is smoking.
She barely survived cancer a few years ago.
But she is more concerned about diet pop than her cigarette.

Re people "not having a choice", we all have choices.
The human genome has not changed much in a few generations. Look at pictures of people from the forties or fifties, people were much leaner.
I was "the fat kid" in elementary. But I looked at grade seven pictures and I wasn't fat by today's standards.
From July last year I lost 26 pounds in 26 weeks by fixing my diet. It was surprisingly easy. Just make better choices.

And this comes from someone who is reasonably fit, mentally (debatable? :)) and physically healthy, relatively affluent with less responsibilities and commitments than the average bear.
But like anything, success takes very hard work- and effort counts.
