How old are you if you don't mind me asking?
Are you seriously saying a brand new technology like self driving cars "don't work well". It's a year old tech in it's infancy. Ten years ago most people were on 56k modems look at where we are now. Do you honestly think electric/self driving cars won't be the norm ten years from now.
I don't need much convincing to switch to electric thanks to all the gas savings and cleaner output. My next car will be a tesla and I will not miss having to fill the tank for $100 every three days.
Also not sure how China and India trying to lower their emissions is a "bad thing".
I'm about half dead, and yes, it's not perfected yet, maybe it will one day, maybe Microsoft will put out a operating system that isn't flawed from the start, maybe I'll get laid for free soon! who knows
yes, only 10yrs more, just like we'd have flying cars by now, and a robot in every house wiping your ass for you
a washing machine and dryer in your SUV, remember that one, cause it was really needed, ect........
the point is, it's not needed, nor is it going to make things better, just like the stupidity of ruining this planet, so lets move to Mars and fuck it up, we should get on that now according to Hawking, he said we only got, maybe 1000yrs left :blabla:
you'll still have emissions, you're just shifting the source, in general, natural gas, for the juice
just like with the electricity market, the demand isn't going down with more people, any supposed savings with the closing, er supposed closing of coal, will come back
you've already seen that in BC, the carbon tax reduced demand for gas, it's already back past what it was before the drop, despite your gouge level of $1.40
plus we already have a version, there called buses, lrt, trains, for those who can't drive
so what's the point of driverless cars? lazy morons, incompetence, getting asians from taking the wheel, lol? that was a jk btw, well sorta, :eyebrows:
the bullshit of supposed perfect flowing traffic, the fantasy? like all you greens in the lower mainland, with the 2nd worst traffic in Canada? that will solve it, er when you all abandon your bikes, the real green alternative
and yes, electric cars, again, bullshit hype, they can't be run clean, cause you need to produce the electricity to charge them, batteries, and you won't be able to that with solar or wind or hydro, in the amount to replace the millions that run on carbon based fuels, not to mention they've been around since the early inventions of cars, they lost out to gas then for a reason, they still can't get more than a couple hundred km, even less in cold weather
unless you live in the city, never leave it, only go back and forth to work, in a warm climate, again, fiction, for a large part of the world
which would be better served with public transit, which is terrible in Canada
and, China, India, have already said they won't ruin their developing economy, to stop producing emissions, till they're just like the 1st world, until they are as rich as us decadent westerners
Both are building coal plants at rates far out stripping any good they do, cause they need way more electricity than wind/hydro/solar can produce yet, cause they have too many people
you can't have a expanding economy and a reduction in emissions, look at Canada, we'll never reach our targets, they're complete bullshit, so were all the targets even before Kyoto
so, basic exponential math takes over
which brings in diminishing returns, which no one wants to talk about, at a certain point, more isn't better
more people=more emissions
more people doesn't make things better, it's just compounds the problems
you need to reduce demand, which no one is willing to do, as the facts have pointed out, time and time again, since the first cry of doom in the 80's, 90's
people are insatiable, human nature, give them something, they don't want to give it up
and there are 3+billion looking over the fence, that want your shit too
unfortunately the planet can't handle that much garbage
read Lorrie Goldstein's constant rants on the subject of Canada's emissions, the math doesn't add up, to being possible to meet reductions, let alone keeping emissions at their present levels
