I imagine I'm not the guy who reads books. Currently reading Kevin Mitnick - The Art of Invisibility. It's about cloaking and counter measures in the age of Big Brother. Mitnick is a revered computer hacker and was on the run from the FBI for years. He was thrown in jail by a judge who felt he could whistle codes to launch ICBM.

Standard Deviations by Gary Smith. Basically talks about how numbers are manipulated in mainstream media to tell one-sided stories. Not sure if I'll finish it though, they beat you to suffocation with examples that all seem very similar to one another.

Look forward to more non-fiction recommends.

A good non-fiction I read recently was Weapons of Math Destruction, by Cathy O'Neil. Its about algorithms and how most people glaze over when it comes to numbers, but how they can be used for good and evil. Evil meaning racism, explaining how a young black man in a bad neighbourhood has a high occurring rate of re-offending, so they get stiffer sentences. And kids like Ethan Couch get a slap on the wrist, coming from a rich family. It was a very good read.

I also enjoyed The Monuments Men book, its way more in depth and adventure filled than the movie, which I thought was meh.

The Three Body Triology by Cixin Liu--> hard sci-fi but gets pretty depressing @ the end/by the 2nd/third book
Southern Mail by Antoine de Saint-Exupery --> flying biography/story about the pioneering flights of the French air service (author also wrote the Little Prince)

The Collapse of the American Criminal Justice System by William J. Stuntz looks @ the systemic discrimination/errors in place within the criminal justice system in America. Excellent analysis from legal/historical standpoint.

Also recommend Creativity Inc, by Pixar head Ed Catmull. Excellent business/management advice with relevant anecdotes about his time with Pixar. Tends to get a little deep with the Steve Jobs shoutout, but a good read overall. Balances key points with analysis of the problems/teamwork throughout the growth of Pixar.

Since we are on the topic of non-fiction and fiction books, do you think reading fiction is a waste of time compared to non-fiction? Like w/e the guy from oasis said one time........

I find that it's easier to digest fiction books given that most business books tend to be extremely vague/redundant.

I read as escape, so mostly fiction. I like sweeping fantasy sagas, so I'm currently reading Game of Thrones. I haven't watched a single episode, but I'm sure I'd like it. Tad William's prequel to Memory Sorrow & Thorn is on my reading list, as is Greg Iles's Penn Cage series. I also like historical fiction & military history/autobiographies: I have Marcus Lutrell"s ("Lone Survivor") & Jody Mitic's books on my reading list next time I'm in the mood for nonfiction.

(Books make great gratuities...:D)

I'm big on rock bios, and I just finished Robbie Robertson's Testimony, which I would highly recommend for any fans of Bob Dylan, the Band and or just fans of the 1965-75 era in rock in general.

Even though Robertson has a reputation (and well-deserved) of being a dick who screwed over his bandmates, he does spin a good yarn and moves through this era like Zelig -- seemingly always at the heart of the action, whether that's playing Woodstock after agreeing to go on before Hendrix, hanging out in the studio as Dylan cut Like a Rolling Stone, or entertaining George Harrison and Eric Clapton (who wanted to join the Band at one time) at the Band's famous clubhouse, Big Pink.

I don't read books anymore, mostly just online articles. I love doing research and learning new things.

My favourite topics to study these days are Science, Technology, Internet Safety and Security, and World Politics. :)

My least favourite topic I've been studying is pedophilia. :(

a bunch of egg heads.

um

flight of the intruder Stephen Coonts I read it a long time ago, maybe a decade or more ago.

I kind of find everything so boring, so simple and so boring hard to get into something. so I am re reading some of my favorites

the older you get the more you realize things never change nothing is really knew,
they kind of just change the words, to make you think its new,

like retard, special needs, handicapped,

no that's, a lie,

who the fuck has ever heard of binary gender neutral or what the fuck that is,
like queer is not my definition of queer,

im and old fart, can't get my head around gueer sometimes you feel like a women some times you feel like a man, you identify with both genders,
fuck its hard enough to just be a happy man or women, imagine, waking up one morning you think your a women, or feel like a women or identify with a women, the next morning your a man.
is that something just fucking made up,

who hasn't thought of being the opposite sex from time to time. I digress
maybe that is why I like the old stuff,
every watch tv now days, there is always someone gay, transgendered, now gender neutral.

I dunno, do you shower, do you pee standing up or sitting down.
when I was young I thought about shit like being gay or homo sexual,
now that im old im just happy it fucking works, and I have someone to share it with.

isn't that all the fucking matters.

The 1st 3 books of the GOT saga are excellent but books 4 & 5...borrow them from the library. You'll see what I mean when you get to them.

I have the first 5; got them as a set. Reading book three now. Because I'm doing so much traveling these days, I like having a book on hand to wind down in the evening so I can turn off my phone (& my brain!)

For those of you interested in internet privacy, I suggest you read this book "The Art of Invisibility" by Kevin Mitnick. It's not written in a technical perspective but for the common man (with some computer understanding). It's staying safe online for the common guy and is the little things you can do to protect yourself online.

I recently finished "The Crusades, A Short History", by Jonathan Riley-Smith. Mostly it just convinced me that we and our ancestors are equally stupid when it comes to military adventures. It does offer plenty of historical context for places that we read about in the news today; the Middle East, North Africa, the Balkans, the Baltic states. We're still fighting or making plans to fight in the same damn places. We do have more effective weapons now. I guess that's progress.

I'm reading "netacad" :dizzy: only Warl0ck here knows what it is :ranger:.
CISCO net academy ;-). I've multiple *expired* CCNA's (R&S and Security). I've often aspired to get a CCIE but I doubt it will happen.
