I recently watched this mockumentary on American netflix.

I was interested to note that it was filmed in Vancouver and used local actors. Further, the director is a women and an up and coming local as well.

While not necessarily completely accurate of the business, the director/writer has obviously done some homework. Curious if anyone else watched it.

Hey Torrential,

Thanks for letting us know this movie exists.

Haven't yet watched it, and after browsing through the reviews—which are overwhelmingly damning—it's not high on my list of priorities.

As one reviewer says, "The viewpoint is clearly feminist, with the men emerging as users and losers, not to mention the financial victims of their own needs, while the women come off as more stable and sensible." (Dave from Ottawa, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1020022/reviews )

The last thing I feel like watching is yet another movie that heaps negativity on what can be a marvelous hobby—if approached with sanity, balance and good cheer.

Another major disincentive for me is that the movie's main protagonist is a "sex-addicted landscaping contractor" obsessing with a teenage (!) SP who never even appears on camera. Can't relate to such a twisted approach.

I did watch Steven Soderbergh's similarly named 2009 film "The Girlfriend Experience" with Sasha Grey, but found it pretty removed from my own experience as well. Sasha Grey's face seemed strangely pasty-looking and her acting pretty wooden, as if she wasn't in her element at all.

Why doesn't anybody ever make movies about "The Happy Pooner," like BadgerJohn or myself?:)

Yah I saw it a while ago and although I only paid half attention to it, I found it to be relatively true to our hobby. Interesting the main male character was totally open with his part time girl friend in that he was going to continue to see SP's. Pretty certain he would be in the minority on that front here anyways. From a historical standpoint, I found a number of scenes which reminded me of some SP's and how they acted or 'flaked' on me.

That movie was called Pretty Woman. :D

I would agree the film wasn't compelling - I do try and see the films shot locally, especially from local directors considering how the film industry is struggling these days.

I've seen this film few years ago. Thought it was kind of boring. On another note I watched this documentary last night and thought it was sort of interesting.
