today a client brought to my attention that either the VPD/VICE or Canadian Government will be calling escorts for mandatory blood testing/ STI testing.. is there truth to this. I get tested frequently on my own and have never had a problem but I am more curious about the validity of his warning. should us SP's be expecting the PD knocking on our door and hauling us in for testing amongst whatever other information they may want? has any one else heard about this or is my client misinformed?

As this is Canada and Soviet era Russia and we do have a Bill of Rights which protects everyone (at least to some degree) no one could be force to be tested without a court order.

Just another Urban Myth.

how are they going to find you?

Are you going to go get tested voluntarily?

Actually, escorts that are working with a City License could be compelled to undergo STI testing as a condition of getting/keeping that license. Just like having a commercial drivers license, your are required to undergo regular medicals if you want to keep it.

thanks for the feedback, i figured as much as his warning sounds something like a witch hunt and i found it very bizarre. of course i get tested voluntarily every 3 months as should any other person in the sex industry (clients included). i didn't think any one could force such actions on to a person of any occupation without a court order as stated above.  silly misinformed man....

Preparation

When the current Federal laws are struck down the legal vultures and the religious right will start circling. If we still have a Conservative government when that happens they will pass whatever law buys them the most votes regardless of the Charter and it will take another ten years to undo the harm. The other parties won't be much better.

You/we need a strong national association in place before the current laws are struck down.

I really doubt they could request that.
It is a fact that the City could amend its by-laws to require STI testing as a condition of having/keeping an escort license. Whether they will or not is speculation. Miss. B. why do you doubt they could request that ? Go see what the requirements are to get a Class 4 or higher drivers license, you have to pass a medical to get it and you have to undergo regular medicals to keep it. If legislation can be written for that, then there is nothing that prevents legislation dealing with escorts.

As I understand the law, escorts provide companionship for a fee. The license is not "sex-for-money" as the service does not include sex (none of the licenses - massage, bodyrub - escort - permit sex) then what would be the justification for demanding an STD test?

If gov't starts requiring sti testing they'd be making themselves liable for living off the avails. Highly unlikely. Furthermore, current licenses are issued by the municipality, not federally nor is it a police issue.

Word to the V. If Escorts were required so would ANY business where employees could potentially pass STI's along, anyone in the medical profession including Dentists. Won
t happen in my opinion. I think a lot of these rumors come from un-knowledgeable anti-olympic folks who are just doing anything they can to make the Omlympics a downer.

Would they make themselves liable for living off the avails, or are they just practising due diligence. If you look at most of the "escort" websites, while they claim you are paying for time only and what happens between two consenting adults, "etc", there is a very clear indication that sex will happen. Further even if there are no menus, and it clearly states, no sex, the arguement can and probably would still be made, did you really believe that ? Cities have a fairly wide ranging authoritry, subject to City Charters and who's to say that, if the City decided that requiring STI tests would help to reduce the number of escorts, they wouldn't go that route ?
