Hi fmi777

Peripheral neuropathy is when there is damage to the peripheral nerves (usually involving the feet and hands) and it is characterized by pain or numbness. It can be caused by a number of conditions or as a side effect to certain medication.

It is common for people with HIV to experience this as it can be caused by the disease, the side effects of the medication or by one of the opportunistic infections you could get if your immune system is weak. It is generally seen in late stage HIV infection.

It is really easy to get freaked out by HIV symptoms as they can be so vague or cover such a wide area. Most of these symptoms do not start until your immune system is low and this generally takes years. I have been telling clients to totally ignore the symptoms as they could be any number of conditions. Instead just use the symptoms as a reminder you should go for a test.

Our current HIV test has a 3 month window period (it may take up to 3 months for a blood test to show positive after you contracted the infection).

I would suggest that you come and see us for a HIV test. Remember in BC no matter were you test you do not need to use your real name.

Thinking about HIV can be scary but it can really help to talk with someone who can give you accurate information and do a test to see if you have HIV.

Let me know if you need help in finding a clinic.
