Hi mkiller23

I was not able to find any studies that have examined the risks of STI/HIV related to golden showers but contact with urine is generally not concerned to be a health risk. The main concern would be if there was a lot of blood in the urine or if the person had an infection on their genitals and it got mixed in with the urine.

Urine that comes in contact with intact skin is not considered to be a health risk for infections such as HIV or Hepatitis B. There may be a theoretical possibility of these infections being passed if urine comes in contact with a mucous membrane e.g. eyes, mouth, vagina.

There is not enough (if any) HIV present in urine to pose a risk of transmission. If there is blood present in the urine it may be theoretically possible to pass HIV this way.

The Hepatitis B virus has been detected in urine even when there is no blood present. This doesn’t happen in all people with Hepatitis B and it is not clear how much of a risk this creates. Getting the vaccine would solve this problem and it is free and easy to get.

There is also a possibility of passing gonorrhea or chlamydia via urine if the urine came in contact with mucous membranes i.e. getting piss in your eyes. Most people who have these infections do not notice any symptoms and that is why we recommend regular testing. Gonorrhea and chlamydia can be tested by peeing in a cup and they are easily treated.

I did find some studies that detected herpes simplex virus in the urine. It is probably there because the urine washed over a herpes sore. With this I guess it would be possible to get a herpes infection in the eye, I am not sure what the exact risk is but would think that it would be lower than direct skin to skin contact with the herpes sore.

The safety precaution we give for golden showers is to avoid contact with mucous membranes of the nose, eyes, mouth, vagina and anus. Urine that come in contact with intact skin should not be a problem.
