Bumps in the vagina

On occasion when I have been with a SP who allows digits, I have felt bumps inside the lady's Vagina. While other times the lining seems smooth with nothing on the lining of the vaginal wall.

Is that normal? or something to be concerned about from a woman's perspective?

Thanks

Hi Guardian Angel

Sorry about the late reply (I really wish I was on holidays).

It is normal to feel bumps inside the vagina as the vagina walls are made up of folds of mucous membrane which is called vaginal rugae. This allows the vagina to stretch when something is placed inside e.g. penis or during child birth.

The vagina is like many human body parts in that you get a huge variation of normal, so woman’s vaginas would feel different.

It is recommended that all women visit their health professionals regularly for PAP smears. During this time the doctor/nurse also examines the vaginal wall to see if there are any concerns.

It also helps if woman gets to know the feel of their own body so that they can detect any changes that are abnormal for them.

Please feel free to comment or ask us to expand on a topic. Remember if you would like to ask me a personal question just send me a PM.

Thanks for you reply.

Your response brought another question to mind. Would it seem more bumps on the vaginal wall if the lady gave birth? Just curious.

No rush on this answer. And hope you do get some holidays too!

The intestines are right next to the vagina.

The bump you are feeling could be a hard stool.

Hi guardian angel

There have been a few studies looking at this and it seems that the loss of these bumps (vaginal rugae) is related to estrogen deficiency and advancing age.
