Although SU has apologized for the use of poppies on their website I was very offended and I see they are still up!
We all have family members who gave their lives for our country and I find it very distasteful with the use of poppies on their latest photo shoot!
I wonder if any of their ladies were offended or were they all thinking the same thing..making money on the backs of the people that paid for our freedom.
I was surprised and shocked that they would stoop so low!

Can someone at least ban this twit

Now having said that, I, as an ex serviceman, kind of take exception. What did we serve for, but freedom of rights, for all people in this country. No matter what their choice of careers or how they choose to survive. I, personally have seen thousands of servicemen use the services of SP's and have obviously used them myself. I served in the 60's and 70's and was stationed in Montreal at the time. Ya, you guessed it, the FLQ was creating havoc then with terrorism and murder. Myself, I had to walk the fence lines in tempertures you would't believe with a loaded rifle and pistol just because we had the major Naval Supply Depot on oneside and
Seagrams Distillery on the other. Go Figure. As for the poppies on the girls,
me and my mates find it is a far better use than what they are grown for in Asian Countries. Guess where all the opiates come from if some of you don't know. And now I will apologize for rambling, but not all of Vets think that was so terrible. It is what we stand on guard for.:p

I am soo upset I will not even look at the photos..
I had grandparents that risked their lifes running a safe house for Jews hiding from Nazis in Holland as well as uncles that served for both Holland and Canada..
As I a photographer as well as a SP I would have not even taken such photos..
 Colleen,
I rethought about some of the rantings I made, and just want you to know that I really did forget about the deeds that our forefathers did. Just want you to know that at least one of us does say on November 11th, LEST WE FORGET. Please forgive me.

Our Apologies

Hello

First let me start by saying that it was never our intention to disgrace, offend, or disrespect anyone at all. I truly apologize to the people I have offended, disrespected, and to those of you who feel the photos were distasteful and a disgrace. We did not mean to cause such harm, anger or resentment to those of you who feel we have done wrong. It was never our intention to disrespect anyone, or to downplay the meaning of Remembrance Day. My Grandfather, and some of my great uncles were lost in the war. I have immediate family in the military too. So yes, I am aware of the importance of November 11. For every holiday and special occasion we always do a photo shoot, November 11 is a holiday. Unfortunately, we did not realize we would offend anyone. I have asked our web master to remove the photos as soon as possible.

Once again we deeply apologize to those of you we offended, as it was never our intention to do so.

Sincerely,
Vikki

I posted this reply in the lounge at 6 am this morning. I was unaware I missed a thread, my apologies.

The pics have since been removed. I e-mailed our web master this morning and the photos were removed by 10am. If you are still seeing them on our kiss and tell page please refresh your screen.

What a pile of crap!!!!!!

Apologie not accepted. When I saw the pics on the web site I was very angery. How could you disrespect the men & women who wear the uniform & to the vets around the world. We would not enjoy the freedoom today if it were not for the vets in this country, I to lost family members in the war & you just lost my business. How could disrepect, offend & disgrace these great men & WOMEN.

Just my 2 cents.

Hey they took the pics down and apologized. I'm sure the offense caused was completely unintentional. Let it go! It's over!

Anyone else think that this is being somewhat blown out of proportion? It's very clear that no offense was intended (that is, they did NOT put the pics up just for "shock value" or to stir controversy), and they clearly (and publicly) apologized and took the pictures down immediately. What else could SU have done?

I for one totally agree that this has been blown totally out of proportion. Yes, maybe Vikki made a mistake in judgement, but for this Vet, it was one of the best uses of poppies that I have seen in a long time. It actually gave me the satisfaction that knowing I served my Country for approx. 10 years in the 60's and 70's was not for nothing. At least we have the freedom to express ourselves because of the Men and Women who gave the ultimate sacrifice or were injured for the rest of their lives and, have to still live with their memories. And, yes even some of my family lost their lives fighting for the freedoms we all enjoy today. For some reason I did not find the picutures offensive and they brought a smile to my face. By the way, I have attended more Remembrance Day Ceremonies in which I had to take part in as a Cenataph Sentry. Do any of you who are offended, know what it is like to spend at least 2 hours in full uniform, with a reversed rifle on your boots and your head down listening to the music and sermons? It really gives a person a chance to think about what true war vets went through. Now that I have rambled again, I truly think that Vikki has done the right thing and her apology is at least accepted by this Perber and I for one will still ask her advice on the ladies I might wish to see.

....but for this Vet, it was one of the best uses of poppies that I have seen in a long time....
I too am a vet who has served this country and fellow Canadians for 20 years. I have partaken in several tours overseas and yes, I have been shot at. Like RF8, I was not offended by SU's use of the poppy because I interpreted it as an homage to veterans.

The fact that we have escort agencies shows that we have a somewhat free and permissive society. Our freedom to have things like escort agencies was ensured by those who gave their lives in war. Also, how many servicemen during WWI and WWII were welcomed into the arms of very grateful French or Dutch ladies in gratitude for their freedom?

I hate to tell you guys this, but I didn't join the military to protect your hairy asses....I did it for the ladies!!:D I plan on making a "poppy" sandwich with one of the SU ladies this weekend (removing the pin first, of course). If I thought that the poppy thing was meant to be disrespectful, it would have bothered me. I do not believe that it was meant that way.

At least SU has the respect to apologize. It's time to move on, ask yourself if you've ever made a mistake.. yup I bet you have.

Apology made..move on

I'm not sure if an apology was required in the first place but one was made and action taken to respond to those who were offended. Let's move on.
