Anyone take in the GP this week-end and what did you think of it? I'm planning on going with a group of six to eight next year and was wondering what the general opinions of the facility are.

I travel to Edmonton a couple of time a year so I don't need any hotel, restaurant or general advise on the city. I know I'm going to get seats in the grandstand @ Turn 1 and pick up a pit pass.

What I'd like to know is what people thought of the general organization of the venue, ie food & beverage at the track, was the pit walk crowded, how easy to catch a cab after the race, and any thing else that was better or worse than what you expected.

Thanks

food concessions are available (beer tents too), cabs not as handy as 3.00 park & ride transit service to lots of city locations

Thanks RRG

I know they have food vendors etc, it's the quality of the vendors I am curious about. I can imagine that all of the restaurants along Kingsway etc. would be a zoo all week-end.

The park and ride isn't really my thing, I'd like to have a few beers and not worry about getting behind the wheel, even if only for a few blocks. If there is a station close enough to walk to from where I'm staying downtown I might think about it. But again with three or four guys in a cab each way can't be more than $6.00 or $8.00 each way. Unless it takes 1/2 to catch a cab to get back?

Theres a Park and Ride from City Hall, if you are staying at one of the downtown hotels its a 5 min walk to City Hall, You can always take a cab back, its 3 dollars each way.

there are two cab stands (one at far north, 1 at far south end), 5.00 cab drop plus, so no more than 10 buxs, if you split $, better deal

cant say about food, didnt go after last years hosing (3.50 water, etc.)

I found the event to be well organized but spread out. Since you've decided on turn 1 for your selection of seats, you will be in the centre of the EGP action. Close to the main beer gardens and walking distant to your seats. There was plenty of eye-candy and lots of interesting people to meet. The RPM club was interesting but more laid back and younger than the main beer garden.

The vendor food selection is minimal unless you just love hot dogs, smokies and fries all weekend. I think for a three day event, they need to improve the selection of the food. Corporate hospitality has more upscale food selections catered by the Sawmill Restaurant. Expensive, but something to consider since you have a large group. But when you consider the costs of hot dogs and smokies, and bottled water for the weekend and the considerable tax deduction for the group on a corporate suite package. Something to consider.

The Pit Pass is over rated, crowded during the good parts, and the Pit entrance a good hike from turn 1 and has clothing, footwear restrictions. A better value is the Paddock Pass which has more action and more things to see. But still a good hike from turn 1. At least a beer garden is close by for refreshments.

Their is plenty of buses available between entrance 1 and 2 and a couple taxi stands on the main street near entrance 2 (after 7 pm) and one near yellowhead from entrance 3. All easy walking, or stumbling distant from turn 1

Hope that helps.

That helps a bunch, I never even thought about the suites. I new the food was going to be pricey but I was expecting a better selection of vendors.
