Well i am not sure where to put this .. It is a complaint about the services provided by . the heath services of my town .
I live in Victoria. Lots of beautiful sex providers .but very few services for testing.. especially by those that say they are there for the sexual hea
th of the people.
I try to be diligent and get tested regularly.. I know every three months is preferable . but i have only average every six months. . Part of the reason is the inconvenience of the testing times available by heath services.. and for that matter even a privet group .. the sexual heath society..
None of them are drop in .. at heath services . you have to make an appointment .. on Monday // between 10:00 and 2:30. or Tuesday .. and Thursday. between 2:00 and 4:00...What if I can't get in there at that time .. because i work.. It is funny how all government services or open when every one is at work ... but not open when you can go in to see them.
Then there is the privet society .. which is open every day .. and to 8:00. some nights .. So I tried them .. "You have to make an appointment " .. 'How long in advances .. ..? A few days ?" I asked .. " At least that " She said..
I left and went to the walk in clinic .. Waited 20 min.. saw .. the doc .. and went and gave my blood and . was done .in about 45 min..
May be some one would like to tell me why the people that are supposedly looking out for our heath.. could give a shit about serving the need of the public .. Std's do not wait for an appointment. so if some one come in for testing .. they should be quit willing to accommodate them .. how else do they plan to stop diseases.
Is it only Victoria that is like this .. or is the rest of the country like this also.

If it was more convenient .. maybe there would be more willing to get it done . Plus how often have you heard an add on STD's . directed at the general public. I think they are far more unaware of the risks of STd's .. then those involved in the sex busyness..

I'm hitting about 6 months since the last checkup for the exact same reason. Do these people think that nobody who can hold down a job gets laid? (grumble)

Cheers! WS.

some thing else.

The other side is I think they look down on any one who comes in for STD check up . they done respect anyone who actually comes in for just a regular check .. They just think that everyone that comes in .. has something to be treated.. because they are a drug user. or sleeps with street walkers .. and must be the cause of all the sex abuse. and VD out there..It may not be exactly that way .. But even at the clinic.. The When i say i am there for an STD test .. I have to tell them a few time .. and then even the doctor .. asks what do you think you got..... It is there way of a put down .. of my sexual preference.
I know part of there job is to deter those that part take of , are in the sex trade. when it is ovious .. that they need help to get out .. then they should be there to help .. But when people chose to be involved . in this busyness. and seem aware .. of what they are doing .. and why .. Respect their chose.. if they have a problem .. doing that . then find a different line of work..
Everyone wants to feel when they go to health services .. or a clinic that they can trust these people to treat them fairly and openly .. they should realize that it is for everyone's benefit that SDT's are stopped in there early stages.. and everyone need to know that they can talk freely and openly about it especially with a health worker.
I think in some respects .. even with the ladies getting check ups . this is a problem.

Hi Maxx50:
I looked at the STD clinics in Victoria and have to agree that the hours are rather short and not easy for daytime workers to get to.
I'm guessing you know about both clinics in the city but just in case you don't I will give you this link:

http://www.stdresource.com/clinics/list.php

As for the second part of your question - the judgment you feel when you go for testing - all I can say is I'm really sorry you are feel like that and I agree you should not be judged when you go for testing. After all that is what we want people to do if they have any risk factors. We should be happy if people get tested and treated in a timely way.
I don't think it is our job as sexual health nurses to be trying to deter people from having sex however they want to, or doing sex work. I think it is more my job to offer you accurate information on risks, safer sex and anything related that you want to ask about.
It is not uncommon to be asked many questions when you go for an STD screen. Sometimes they are useful to the examiner because they help to determine a persons risk and also what kind of tests the examiner should do.
But our clients sometimes end up feeling the questions are intrusive and don't see why they are necessary. And it is possible sometimes that all of them are not necessary, but they have become part of a routine for the examiner/health professional.
When you go for testing you are not required to give information you are not comfortable with. If you feel judged because you do sex work or poon then you don't have to give that information. You can say, for e.g., that you have a new partner and want to get screened before you have unprotected sex (or whatever you are comfortable with).
Wish I could be more helpful in influencing the approach or attitudes of health professionals you run into.
