are they now a better team?

How will they place in their division?

Colorado picks up Ryan Smith ... teamed with Sackic
that's going to be lethal ...

Buttoozi joins the already big Ducks ... first repeat???

LA picks up its roster ... but at least Sanford will be a
Canuck rather than a Canuck-stopper for a while ...

And the Nucks are still stuck with that pile of unproductive turd,
Markus 'Captain Coward' Naslund ... 6 million dollars of
meatball playing ...

Are they a better team you ask?? I 'd say definetly NO !
What.....Isbister is gonna change the theme?? ahhhhhhhhhhhh NO..I don't think so.
Weak signing for sure! I do like the Goalie Sanford Signig but to bad we won't be paying that much unless Luongo get injured or something. I like Sanford.
I think NONIS is waiting for next year. NAZZY's contract runs out and then were home free. A couple other ones may be gone too next year --pending performance this coming season.

I was hoping that Vancouver would have enough cash available to sign Ryan Smyth. He would have been dynamite with the Canucks. It looks like he's signed a long term deal unfortunately, and will be available only if he gets hurt or underproduces and is deemed to be overpriced. :(

Also, the Ducks signing Schneider and Bertuzzi has me wondering what Brian Burke must be thinking. Schneider is no Neidermeyer and Bertuzzi's style seems obsolete to me. Is Burke turning the Ducks into the Canucks?

I don't think the Avalanche will be lethal unless they never give up the puck. Their defence is brutal (can you name the top two guys on their defence other than Hannan and he was slow in San Jose!!). Their goaltending is questionnable as well so in a showdown between the Canucks and the Avs, I will take the Canucks anyday.
Don't even mention the Kings, they are brutal and will miss the playoffs again this year. No goalie, and a group of young players who need to learn about taking it to the next level.
Anaheim and Pittsburgh in the final I think. Pittsburgh has the youth, and leadership in Roberts, Recchi, and now added Sykora and Sydor who have both won cups !!

You heard it here first boys.

I wouldn't say Isbister is a weak signing. I've always liked his play style since he joined the league (okay okay, since I played as the Islanders in an early NHL video game ;) )

Seriously though, he's pretty much a replacement for Josh Green.

I thought the talented but less pricey guys like Nagy or Handzus would be a good fit to play with the twins or Naslund, but instead Nonuts decides to go after the ultra low priced 4th line chumps. Isbister's another reclamation project but Ritchie seems to have some promise, just like Bulis did last offseason. Ho hum

If I were Luongo, I'd purposely play shitty hockey the first 10-15 games just to scare nonuts into making a trade for some goalscoring help up front

I hate to say this, but it looks like Calgary, as well as revamped Colorado & LA will give them a big run for their money next season. All LA needs is a replacement for Cloutier, and they might even be good to go for a top 4 spot in the conference. Right now, the top 8 might shape up something like this:

Detroit
San Jose
Anaheim
Calgary
Colorado
LA
Dallas
Minnesota/Vancouver/Nashville

One problem with your top 8 jimbo - IT IS NOT POSSIBLE.

San Jose and Anaheim are in the same division and therefore cannot finish 2nd & 3rd. Your top 8 should have looked like this:

Detroit
San Jose
Calgary
Anaheim
Colorado
LA
Dallas
Minnesota/Vancouver/Nashville

However, isn't it a a little early to be making hockey predictions? Summer is just starting and who knows what additional trades will be made between now and training camp.

Just my 2 cents.

Well it seems like were going into the 2007/08 hockey season pretty much with the same team once again.
That's the problem with this management .....They're married to this fricken team like they always had. This is a pattern they've had for decades. Stay married to the team and hope for the best.

I agree with the above poster mentioning LA. LA has picked up some good ones. Watch for them if they grab a decent goalie. That's they're only down fall.

well, one more season of shitty hockey but great goaltending
and then Naslund will hopefully be gone ...

it is the WORST deal Burke ever did (at least clouts was only
a couple million wasted) and the fans have had to pay for it
over and over and over again ...

on his own, naslund just isn't effective and since there is
no secondary scoring line then its even easier to shut him
down ...

the nucks NEED a guy like Ryan Smith ... sure, they couldn't
afford him this season, but he shows leadership, sacrifice and
is willing to go to the net ... and he's EFFECTIVE when he's there.

the BAD thing is that Luongo wants to win ... and another season
of the losers in front of him he is going to be thinking of another
team that could contend and being closer to the east coast --
either Montreal or Florida or somewhere in between.

so in two years its Sanford with Schneider backing him up???

Ok you got me there mr. bigthighs, but the ranking was only done for effect to show the improvement some teams like Colorado and the Kings might exhibit if the season were to start today. I was only ranking the teams based on my own point total projections without factoring in division title rules etc. Regardless, you can still see that I rank the sharks a notch higher than the ducks due to the pending retirements of selanne and Nieds.

Well F*ck it, I'm gonna start my hockey pool today regardless of any other transaction activity. So the sharks decide to trade thornton for pronger 1 for 1. who cares, that won't have any impact on standings or player points projections. I just can't understand why everyone has to wait until Oct to pick their players in their pools and fantasy leagues. Why wait? ;)

In all likelihood Bill Guerin will sign with the Canucks. Before you say, yeah but he's old and he disappeared in the playoffs he did score 32 goals last year and he is a right hand shot, like Anson Carter, so he can play with the Sedins. If they do sign him, their offense will improve as well as their power play.

As far as Naslund is concerned, I have a feeling he is going to have a bounce back year. I keep hoping that he will rescurrect his scoring much like Teemu Selanne did and then pack it in after this year.

The Canucks will be even better defensively this year and the backup to Luongo now is at least a proven commodity. The signing of Schneider brings a valuable asset that if they don't want to develop as Luongo's successor they will certainly be able to package in a trade for some offensive talent.

Right now the Kings have the following players who could fit into their top 6:
Cammalleri, Frolov, Nagy, Handzus, Kopitar, Calder

While O'sullivan, Dustin Brown and Derek Armstrong are better 3rd liners than anything the Nucks have to offer at that level.
Only nitpick is they probably shouldn't have traded away Sean Avery who just might be the Claude Lemieux or Esa Tikkanen of this era

Their starting 6 on D looks something like this:
Blake-Visnovsky
Stuart-Preissing
Modry-Jack Johnson

Not too shabby if you ask me

no doubt naslund will try to play better if only to scam another
contract extension but i hope nonuts gives him the friggin boot
to the curb or airport or local ikea!

guerin would be nice if he brings leadership and a low price tag ...
if he wants big bucks it won't help.

i hope the nucks don't get stupid and trade away their development
players for more garbage ... if schneider is the next luongo then
they should keep him rather than trade him.
