Craigslist browser explains which ads get attention

The thread asking about Craigslist responses inspired me to write here about what catches my eyes and interest while browsing the many duplicated ads on Craigslist.

This, hopefully for the benefit of SP's who are constructing ads there in the near future.

A - Put your age so that it lands, accurately, in the ad heading. Do it for yourself and for your potential clients. (there are millions of women out there - channel only those who could possibly be interested in YOU, your way)

B - Say something unique and substantial in your ad heading. Go to your old high school classmate who was great with the language for suggestions if you have to - do NOT make yourself seem clueless before potential clients even open your ad. (Again, figure out what others have indicated was your major appeal or selling-point and broadcast it with that one line - it doesn't have to be physical at all, it might be your personable charm. Spell it out and then just beeeeeeeee the person your ad inspires them to expect.)

So much of this is about doing your best to coerce the male mind to *expect* just the person you are likely to be, or at least seem, once he visits you. This underscores how pointless it is to suggest that you're waif-thin when you have enjoyable, snuggleable feminine curves about you. Nothing works against you more than to have misrepresented yourself in any way. PERB reviews, among other things, will sit there forever and always and it isn't your measurements which will be critiqued, it will be your new reputation for being deceptive. It is so much more productive to present your entire self as you are, and to weed-out immediately the guys who want somebody else's measurements, or hair color, or level on the frat-boy rating scale (some of those "10's" aren't blessed with the personalities I most enjoy - because society lets them get away with not needing them).

IF your appeal is significantly your personality, then the audience to which you shall appeal most IS just the subset of Craigslist viewers who will read more of the average ad. So take the ball and run with it that way.

(if you're 19, without too much depth, but truly stunning physically, then present yourself with great photos and just the contact, rate, restriction details and little else - the pictures will sell you)

C - Put a photo in your ad... even if it is merely the sunset outside your back door, it will still inspire many people to bother to open your ad when they wouldn't have otherwise. (we use the CL "search" capabilities to narrow the age range and often mark "only show ads with photos") (the only people who can get away for very long without a photo are those who really are "non-pro's" who are "just doing this to pay the rent this month" etc. - we understand why they don't want everyone knowing their identity and their business)

IF you are putting pictures of yourself in your ad for the purposes of enticing could-be clients, DO NOT settle for anything in the way of poor picture quality! Even if you're particularly stunning to look at, the poor picture quality raises questions as to how sincere you are about the upcoming business arrangements. In many ways we can barely believe that we might get to make nice with such attractive women, but we really can't believe that such attractive women would allow their portraits to show them in an unflattering light.

D - Always spell-out your rates, availability, and restrictions clearly in your ad. If for no other reason than to give yourself a clear means of separating the decent men from those you might prefer not to be with, when they call up asking for what was clearly explained in your ad. (** not that the most terrible clients couldn't be among the most literate and proper... but they are aware of the "computer fingerprints" they've created too)

E - If you have offered the above-mentioned helpful additions to your ad, then I am most likely going to click on your ad. It is at this point that it would be very helpful to see some of your personality shine through via the written word. Don't need several paragraphs about you, but it would be great if you would again emphasize the positives, and highlight the elements of time spent with you which other clients seem to enjoy most.

Much of the allure of Craigslist is that it assures us that very real, everyday women are quite interested and willing to have sex with us for pay. We love the arena where in we get to sort through many suitable candidates availing themselves for our perusal. Our minds are going a hundred miles a minute here, and it cannot be that difficult to woo us into selecting YOUR ad to follow-up with inquiries or appointments.

Your ad is an extension of your personality, and in a way it is like the high school yearbook with your photo and a (handwritten) paragraph you share which almost touches us personally each time we read it.

I do get tired of the many-times-repeated ads, under different headings, all bunched up at Craigslist during a 15-minute period. No short ad headings, and be unique there...

"Presenting yourself" is about two things:

"Presentation" and "You"

don't skimp on either element and you'll get far more of the useful Craigslist responses and fewer of the idiotic ones.

I intended and hope that this will be helpful to sincere SP's using Craigslist soon.

CL: the fat, the fake and the expensive :) (not entirely true)

Thanks for posting this. I generally agree with you.

I got fed up with CL's flagging and decided to do something about it. I wrote a downloader (easy) and then wrote a post analyzer (find name, phone - not easy) so I could meaningfully group posts. You wouldn't believe the number of posts with no pics, no contact info, no reason to respond whatsoever. What are these people thinking?

BTW I'm wondering if there is any interest in doing sort of a Vancouver CL wiki based on this? PM me if you would like to help out.

I did an analysis of flagging a few months ago and found that 50% of all flagged posts were generated by 10 people or less than 1% of all posters. Pretty much all of these people had complaints against them in some form or another. So its not the asians that are flagging IMO its disgruntled customers.

I mostly agree

Although the pictures, the quality I don't think is as important as if they look honest. An SP ad on LE I expect professional pictures. On CL I prefer pictures that look more real, even if it is phone quality pictures. The real professional stuff, unless of course it is one of the more well known SP's, usually looks like a ripoff in the making. Pictures from another web site etc.

On CL ads, it's best to be fairly honest when stating age. I know some ladies play with the (minus 5 rule) real age 40 minus 5 = 35 (stated on ad).

Marion aka Britta (604 313-1921) states she's 41 when I know she's past 60. I was sucked in once, but never again. :(

I have emailed several as there is no phone number and have yet to ever hear back from most of them. Is there something threatening about my inquiry as to: your tel number and neighborhood please?

Kara advertises 42, I went there one night since I am mid 40's. Scary site when she opened the door. I came inside trying to decide to stay or not. I asked who the pictures on the fridge were, she said her grandchildren. They looked 42. I bolted. It had nothing to do with her age, I would still do Sophia Loren and she is 73. Kara was just really really a scary looking woman. If she had advertised 68 or whatever it would have been less of a surprise.

some women need to know when to exit the industry. I mean there is an unofficial retirement age isnt there in the oldest profession?

I agree entirely with your vibe. But I think most discerning eyes on either side of the coin can tell when someone is posting a photo that camoflages (or seems to, even if there is nothing to camoflage) more than just identity.

It takes some amount of personal boldness to display yourself for the potential Craigslist clientele, but I say that if you are going to step beyond the point where you could be clearly recognized and identified by (your grade eleven math teacher, for example), then you are at the point where you can allow could-be clients to see that you have a full, feminine derriere, rather than to conceal it more than just tactfully.

The single best thing that Craigslist and other advertisers can do for their business, and for the quality of sessions once those begin, is to do whatever it takes to bring the male mind as near as possible to expecting exactly what your service, personality, and body have to offer.

If you are the sort who advertises herself as a compact 22yo with a 34b-22-33 frame, and you are truly a 31yo of 5'7" who is 36c-28-38, then it is your deceit, and not your physical self, which is likely to send people away.

Then you come full circle and land here at PERB to complain about sessions which you effectively choreographed completely with your deceptive habits.

Just stop doing it.
