Hi, any recommendations out there on what software to purchase to transfer video from an HDV camcorder (Canon) to a PC, as well as for editing?
Thanks in advance.

What to get, what to get?

That is the big question.

If your camera has a USB outlet, you won't need the firewire connection.

For video editing, I use Pinnacle Studio 8, 9 and 10. I like Studio because it is very user friendly with really good screens to work from.

Adobe Premiere is among the best but you're really going to pay for that one and it is very complicated.

Studio is good but I do find it a bit unstable. When you're capturing, editing and then rendering into a final file or disc, make sure your computer is not doing ANYTHING else. Shut down as many background process as possible and have LOTS of hard-drive space, you're gonna need it. I have 320 GB of harddrive space and that is just about full. OK, there's a lot of crap on there too.

I use a second computer to do my editing so I can have my main computer to do the daily stuff. If I didn't, then everything is sooooo slow and also risk a potential lockup.

Windows Movie Maker (comes with XP) is a good editor to start with but does have limitations. I just recently used it for a friends video (a very short one) and it worked well.

A friend of mine has an Apple and it is soooo easy it's ridiculous. He tells me it NEVER fails. I think his Apple program is iMovie?

thanks

I just returned my camcorder, it was a demo, but I'm thinking about getting the same model again - Canon HV10. Nice HD model. Any other suggestions for HD camcorders?
