Is going through all the crowds on Boxing Day really worth the effort. I see the same items for the same price 3 or 4 days prior to Christmas. The stuff that is deeply discounted (in terms of clothing at least) are out of season, odd sizes, and colours that aren't the greatest.

In terms of electronics, there may be some good buys but how much in terms of dollars are actually saved?

Boxing day is a good chance for retailers to dump all their unwanted overstock. I went to FS for a bit, there were no spectacular deals but they were selling stuff by the ton. People seem to lose all sense of reason this time of year, they see a big "SALE" sign and go all gaga!

IMO no. The hype created by boxing day preys on our reptilian brain and greed. You go to bestbuy and see a crowd with a bunch of shit as they're leaving the store so you need to scoop up as much as you can before some other mofo gets it.

Check the store's website and you'll likely find the same deal as in the store but without the obnoxious crowds.

I think its overblown. The best deals are naturally in very limited quantities and usually gone by the time you get inside the store after a long lineup outside.

did the boxing day sales. Went to line up at FS and was pretty good. Got a sony dvd player for 50bux and the sony 2g mp3 player for 99.99. (saved almost 120bux. The ipods 2 g went like hot cakes... I think if you know what you are looking for and you invest your time and add a dash of craziness it can be good. (was my first time!!!)

I went to FS & BB. The only thing I picked up was a few DVD's for 4.99. Cheaper than me renting it, & copying it to my library. On the other hand, there was nothing that I wanted, that couldn't wait until after New Years.

I have no clue why people would lined up for hours at FS and Best Buy. Nearly everything that was a “door crasher” was available on line on Dec 24 5 PM (PST). The website for both places had some problems for the first 30 minutes, but I managed to get everything I wanted.

If you were like me and by the time you got mobile and down to the store it was about 2pm, none of this fukkin 6am lining up for me. Mind you everything was picked through and gone....except the people. Fukkin mad house. I had to park across the street at the fukkin Firestone.

IMO no point being there at 6am unless you really want something special. I was in there about 20min and it did me fukkin head in.

Most of the items that are "heavily discounted" were shipped into the store
Christmas eve. I have seen trucking warehouses in Richmond with items marked "Do not deliver till 12/24." By and large it is a complete scam.

The evening news mentioned it last night as well and a Simon Fraser Prof
was explaining the same concept.

I went to FS at 6:30 in the AM for two items. A cheap cell for my nephew
and the $6 thumb drives. Naturally they were sold out of each item in the first half hour.

I also noted $50 off a small TV that I had bought right before Christmas and went to get my money back and after waiting in two lines was told that this was the same as an exchange and I would have to come back on the 28th.

Yea whatever...

On-line is maybe the way to go

I went on-line on the 24th for FS and BB's boxing day sales (oxymoron if I ever heard one) and got what I wanted after some hiccups, ie, servers down, etc.. These were items listed in the flyers as only 50 per store. Online they had listed close to 1,500 of the one item I wanted (Sansa 2gb MP3 player). I received the emails yesterday saying the items had shipped. If lucky should have them by the end of this week. Who needs to wait outside, sit by the warm glow of the monitor and do your shopping!:p

I would rather spend Boxing Day with my family instead of lining up with the rest of the sheep in the freezing cold at 3 AM just for an overhyped discount on a plasma TV.

Most of my family gave gift cards to the kids who went out on boxing week and bought everything they wanted at much lower prices than pre Xmas.
Am I the only one who thinks these companies promoting gift cards may be cutting their own throats. Especially when they only make money at Xmas.

Gift Cards, yeah right

The companies that sell gift cards love them, they have your money up front and a certain percentage of the cards are never redeemed for there face value at the retailers. Also, companies charge a monthly fee for the gift cards. They may charge a monthly percentage, or charge a monthly fee. Bottom line is the value of your gift card goes away each month till it's gone, it's like magic
