I remember the Senate hearings on Allende. They were popular viewing in the early 80's. There was this senator questioning a CIA official. He asked how Allende died. The CIA official said to the best of his knowledge he had committed suicide. Then he asked how he committed suicide, the CIA official said he believed that he shot himself. The senator then asked what the weapon was. The CIA guy said he believed it was a Colt 45 with an 8 round clip.

The Senator then said he had in front of him a report that detailed the wounds on Allende, the report was from the CIA and was the official familiar with the report. The CIA official said he was. And then the best part, the senator said something like

"So sir in the report Allende was shot 9 times, all entry woulds were in the back. As you have stated, the weapon he was killed with only holds 8 rounds. Does that mean you are asking this commission to believe that Mr. Allende committed suicide by shooting himself in the back 9 times, stopping only once to reload?".

Yep looks like a clear case of suicide alright. ;)

When a bastard like this brutal dictator dies, I almost wish I believed in heaven and hell because for sure Augusto Pinochet would be headed to the latter for all eternity. But since I don't believe in any of that heaven/hell nonense, but rather in reincarnation, I'll have to content myself with the knowledge that he'll re-enter this world with a shitload of karma brought forward from his previous life. Hopefully it will result in him having a miserable existence from the moment he's born until the day he dies.

Pinochet saved Chile from the Communists, the hardest thing to forgive is a favour.

I don't think that death and torture of thousands of civilians and the disappearance of thousands more is part of saving a country from an ELECTED Marxists government.

"Saved Chile", my ass! What total fucking bullshit!!

Salvador Allende, a Marxist (not a Communist), was duly ELECTED by the people of Chile. The American government, true to form, decided to meddle in the affairs of another nation because they didn't want another leftist (not Communist) government in this hemisphere and so the CIA operatives were sent off to destabilize the new government. After Allende's "suicide" (duly documented in an earlier post), the FASCIST generals led by Augusto Pinochet took control of the government and imposed a DICTATORSHIP on what had been, albeit briefly, a democracy. During the ensuing 17 year reign of terror, thousands of citizens were plucked from their homes and taken to football stadiums and prisons where they were executed by the military. To this day, many of the bodies of "the disappeared" have never been found.

Augusto Pinochet was a ruthless, murdering THUG who also looted the Chilean treasury and still has millions stashed in bank accounts around the world. His actions were and are indefensible and someone who even tries to do so (for instance, Margaret Thatcher) has their head so far up their ass that they can only dream of ever seeing daylight again.

Actually, I'm sadden to by Pinochet's death. However unlike that biotch Thatcher I'm not sadden by the death of the person but rather reflective the horrors he inflicted on the Chliean people. To tell you the truth I'm a little turned off by the celebrations over his death because to me I think demeans the deaths of the thousands the Pinochet regime killed. Now is the best time to be mourning their deaths.:(
