Baby Oil and Condom

I have been to several SPs and it seems to be common practice that they use Baby Oil to lubricate themselves as well as to give handjobs.

I have recently been in such situation, when I was done, the condom contained all my belongings, with no leaks no mess.

My question is, should I be worried about contracting STDs/AIDS when the condom is in contact with Baby Oil (Mineral Oil), yet it did not break? :(
Thanks in advance.

Hi homme007

If the condom did not break you should not be at additional risk to sexually transmitted infections. It is just that the use of oil based lubricants will damage latex condoms and increase the chances of it breaking.

There are a large amount of lubricants on the market that are water based and each one can have a different texture. It would be a good idea to ask if it is water based if using latex condoms.

Oil based lubricants would not damage condoms that are made out of polyurethane.

Hi Nurse:

But I did read somewhere about oil that create microscopic holes in the condom causing it to potentially pass virus/bacteria from the vagina to the penis.

Is this likely?

Hi homme007

We did find some websites that referred to this situation. But we were unable to find any scientific studies to back it up.

There is no question that latex will deteriorate when in contact with oil based lubricants. It would make sense that as the condom deteriorates there would be small holes that could become bigger and lead to a broken condom. If the condom doesn’t break it is pretty hard to know if those microscopic holes existed.. And it seems that it has not been well studied or documented.

While we don’t know whether microscopic holes exist, you do know that the condom you were using did not break. Clearly a broken condom causes the greatest risk for STI/HIV transmission. Microscopic holes are an unknown.

As this is a concern for you we recommend you get tested.

It’s a good idea to clarify what kind of lube is being used. Your partner may not know about the risk related to using oil based lubricants and latex condoms.
