Dear Health Nurse:

I had my Twinrix shots (0, 1 and 6 months) about 9 years ago. Do I need to get a booster shot? And how long is my original vaccination good for?

Thank you in advance for your information.

Hi wilde

You have had the full series of 3 shots and at this stage there is no recommendation for a booster shot, if you have a healthy immune system.

Immunocompromised people (e.g. HIV infection) may need booster shots. You would need to see your doctor about this and they would assess your individual situation.

So far protection has been shown to last for at least 15 years (information given by the manufacture of the hepatitis B vaccine). This is roughly how long the hepatitis vaccine has been on the market. As time goes on we will have a better idea of how long it will last.

Please feel free to comment or ask us to expand on a topic. Remember if you would like to ask me a personal question just send me a PM.
