If this is in the wrong forum or not allowed I apologize in advance. I have no affiliation with A&B Sound so there's no financial motivation for me.

I was under the impression that multi-region DVD players were not sold in stores. Imagine my surprise when I saw one for under $50 in this week's A&B Sound flyer. The flyer prices are good through Aug 30.

The "brand" is CIMA. The model name is DIVX-595. The basic specs are: DIVX/DVD/DVD+R/RW/MP3/VCD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/JPEG/KODAK PHOTO.

Lots of outputs including:

5.1ch
digital coaxial
digital optical
VGA
Composite
component

has front panel MIC jacks apparently for Karaoke support.

PAL/NTSC
110-220V 50/60Hz

I have not plugged it in yet so I can't speak to the quality. The guy at A&B Sound suggested using it as a secondary DVD (specifically for other regions). He gave me a code (apparently not documented) to make the region switch.

By the way the use of the word "hot" in the title was not saying they are stolen goods. It's more a double meaning about my belief (and maybe of others too of their unavailability in stores and that the price seems amazing for the features offered.

I guess that, first off, you have to ask yourself how many non-R1 DVDs you'll be watching. Personally, I can't remember ever having one. The ones I brought back from asia were already region-free.
As far as the code the guy gave you, it's simply a region hack. This is nothing new. There are a ton of websites out there that have them, for a pile of different brands and models of players.
Here's just one example for ya: Click me!

I noticed that there is no hack listed on that site for the CIMA. You could always submit the one you have if it works...

On a side note I bought a RJTECH player about a year ago and it was the worst piece of shit electronic gear I had ever purchased. A firmware upgrade killed the first one. The build quality was absolute cheap shit. They should have sold them at the dollar store or flea market IMO.

To make a long story short I giggled my motha-fukkin ass off when I threw it off the 3rd floor of a building DT one night. :D :D
