The net gain/loss to society by this speed bump checking out is probably black ink and doubt he'll be missed. The cold hard reality is that even in our country of excess and wealth there are a number of people who simply have decided not to participate in "normal" social behavior like having a job, being productive, etc. This poor fucker's number came up in the form of a winnebago but could have just as likely been liver failure, freezing to death, etc. Only thing you can do is limit the harm they do to others and themselves with the likes of the Boyle Street or Mustard Seed mission.

Actually, you've hit the nail on the head there. Provincial governments have been down-sizing mental institutions steadily for the past 20 years or so. Just turning the retards out on the street to be run over by cars and trains - ignored by you and me as we storm by them on the sidewalk, too full of ourselves to pay any attention to that beggar on the corner (at least I do, I don't know about you - and I will continue to do so despite this softie sounding rant).

Reminds me of the dumbass who, along with two buddies, was smashing car windows real early one morning in New West. Someone called 911, LE arrived and the 3 guys scattered. The dumbass ran towards the railroad tracks and thought he could escape by rolling under a moving train, NOT. Front St was closed off for hours as forensics were obtained. Another nominee for the Darwin Award for no further contribution to the gene pool. The two buddies disappeared.

I read about this too - somehow I always thought that perhaps New Wests' finest might have had a somewhat more active role in the perp's "rolling" beneath the train than simply watching in horror!

I was pretty sure you took no pleasure in ridiculing the influences of drug addiction, mental illness and alcoholism… I knew you wouldn’t dismiss these factors and hold the homeless up to some “weakness measure” of those who willingly make choices to ruin their lives through substance abuse or lack of emotional control.
