Dave Nonis spends about $500,000 on a Rory Fitzpatrick who was a minus -18, worst a strong Buffalo team and paired with stable Jay Mckee. Nonis then spends another $500,000 on Dman Yanic Tremblay who didn't play at all the in NHL last season. Why doesn't he use the one million for a decent dman instead of two questionable players?

welcome to the cap: either you spend $6 mil for Chris Pronger and hope
the rest of the team can pot a couple into the net, or you get
Markus Naslund and hope your D-men can stop the occasional puck.

the cap really only took the NHL from moronic to stupid: they
should have structured salary with minimums and maximums
and then allowed additional bonuses for the playoffs ABOVE
the cap!

as it stands now, teams spend too much on a couple 'stars' and then
have to sign even MORE junk players than they did before and really
hope the junk pans out for the team.

Agree with the depth but if you look a depth forward for example, we signed Richard Park for $750,000. Yeah he's cheap but he sat for almost half the games and scored 6 goals or something like that. Again, for a million you could sign like a Bondra or high risk guy such as Lindros.

I'll sort of hijack this thread, but keep the conversation on Nonis.

I got the "brochure" from the Canucks that came with my ticket package info. Basically, it's a giant pamphlet about "The Difficulties of Being a GM" and it is basically a life story of Nonis and how hard he's working.

Seemed like a narcissistic thing to do. As if I really care.

Your just a bandwagon fan and when Canucks goto the playoffs you'll be jumping on its dick like you took viagra. If you call this team being cheap with a core like

LUONGO
Mitchell
Salo
Ohlund
Bourdon
Sedin twins
Naslund
Morrison

give your head a shake.

You people complaing must be the old farts that complain to the city about the outdoor stadium be implemented into the waterfront of downtown. How in any possible way can you judge this team when it hasn't even been on the ice yet? If you have not done any in-depth analysis on these newly acquired players or see how every team has flaws in a salary-cap world then please do not bother posting like you know this stuff.

Exactly, just like 99.9% of Canucks fans which is why they are the worst fans in sport and don't deserve a championship team.

What does an outdoor stadium have to do with wether or not Nonis is a good GM? I'm still pissed off they hired Mike Keenan. I'm tired of out of town rich guys making decisions for us local fans. We need local ownership instead of accountants fr USA;)

Last season we witnessed Nonis perform as GM. He was abnoxiously cautious with the media and he was in denial about the woes of his team. His only proven success from last year was acquiring Carter to play with the Sedins.

I will tip my hat to Nonis that he has changed the complexion of this team in the off season as it was obviously needed. However, I am pessimistic about the new direction. At this point it looks like Canucks fans will have to get accustomed to seeing less of the red light flashing at the opponents end of the ice.

If the Canucks don't score as many goals, they should have less goals scored against them based on the acquisitions such as Luongo and Mitchell.

If defence wins then let it be. Vancouver will still support the team.

your mom says hi.
i'd really still like to see them sign carter if he brings his price down a bit. seems no one else is signing the guy so i hope he realizes that and signs. although he might be a bit jaded and just not sign here at all.

in other threads there were a lot of people bitching about him, saying all he does is tap in rebounds and shit like that but let me remind those people that the sedins basically had a break out season playing with him on their line. there is something to be said about chemistry.

the perfect example of this would be the boston celtics of the 80's. they really only had one bonafied star and a few other better then average players but the rest were just role players. yet they beat teams that on paper had more "talent" then they did night in and night out. thats what chemistry does.

my opinion, the sedins wouldn't have looked half as good as they did last season without carter on the line with them and maybe vise versa.
