I noticed that I have a cut on my finger; therefore, should I avoid giving bareback digits?

Wondering if some sort of spray exists that can be applied to the fingers as a barrier or preventive against infection ? Possibly the Health Nurse may have some idea ?

Hi BC Boy

Any cut on your finger could theoretically let in the HIV virus to your body if it came in contact with bodily fluids infected with the HIV virus. I would avoid giving bareback digits until it was completely healed. You could always use another digit that did not have a cut.

Covering it with a dressing and then using gloves is another option.

If you had infected fluids on your hands washing with soap and water would kill the virus.

Hi Octopus

There are sprays available through the drug stores that are supposed to provide a good barrier. The only concern I would have is how the barrier would hold up against the friction and moisture.

Using a glove would probably provide better protection.

The only downside to using a glove is that sensation would be reduced :(
Are any micro-thin gloves available in drug stores besides the usual latex gloves ?

I heard that there are barrier creams that are not easily washed away and maintain protection for a few hours. Do you know of any such barrier sprays available through drug stores ?

The suggestion Creole Lady Marmalade made of using a finger cot is a good idea and you could also use a condom on your finger if you were concerned.

I have had a few questions regarding the barrier sprays/spray on bandage, I have contacted the manufactures in Canada and they are going to get back to me next week in regard to their product.

If you get info from the manufacturers, it may be a good idea to publish it here.

I have spoken with one of the technical experts from one of the companies that make the spray on bandages and he has said that the spray on bandages work really well to keep out the dirt and grime from wounds.

In relation to virus’s that could be transmitted by digit play he stated that the product has never been tested, but he believes that the product would not provide good protection as you could not guarantee a good enough seal to keep out the microbes.

The options that we have already mentioned are that you could use a glove, finger cot or a condom.
