Well, it wasn't pretty, but they pulled it out.

Only question I have is why they keep using Bertuzzi to take faceoffs... I don't remember ever seeing him win one... he's a winger, not a center and faceoffs have been a huge problem for the Canucks... they make a huge difference in close games... look at Edmonton and their centers... they need to trade for a faceoff man... the canucks don't treat faceoffs seriously enough... they need to get a 3rd line defensive specialist/penalty killer that is a master on the draw... and they need that player to help Morrison and Sedin on their draws... so the team is strong on draws on all 4 lines... they need to be able to have at least 2 top notch faceoff men they can use down the stretch in critical situations where u want 2 centers on the ice just in case 1 gets thrown out.

As much as i hate to say it,Linden hasnt been effective in the circle this year. He really needs to get some useful icetime to bring his heart and his hands back into the game. I remember back when he was one of the best, along with Joel Otto at the draw. If he can get going Im sure the rest of the team will fall right back into line.

Those two strong face-off men in 2003-2004 were Morrison and Linden. Both of these guys suck up payroll and don't deliver anymore--especially in face offs. And another guy I remember as decent was Arvedson but he just had bad luck in the injury department. I think Crawford has to concentrate more on strengthening that aspect of their game. I think in the trade department the Canucks should focus on goaltending and another decent defenseman. Jovo just ain't worth his 3.5 mil-- too inconsistent. Morrison worth 3.2 million ? Nope. Guys like Carter, Sedins and Salo are looking like gold at their salaries. And Auld is brilliant at times, especially when he was a back-up, but he still has to develop his mental game to be able to be a number one and stay focused with the intensity of someone like Kiprasoff. What's going to happen to the Canucks if Auld gets injured ??

I thought the game this evening was actually pretty decent. Fast tempo and hard hitting on the forecheck. Half of their power plays looked tentative and and the other half looked fab.

I've watched Linden and he's been terrible in the circle... I don't think he was even 33% against Edmonton a few games back.

He's never really been "one of the best"... top 30 in the league maybe... best on the Canucks yes... but "one of the best" no... he has 1 main technique and that's it... the best adjust their techniques depending on who they are facing and they are consistently between 50-75% every game.

On another note, I was happy to see Richard Park a healthy scratch. Here's a guy who shot prosper with the new rules and it's been tits up after ten games into the season.

Hopefully he'll find something extra after being scratched.

Flames should have won

Morrison – 10/16=63%
Linden – 1/6 = 17%
Kesler – 9/19 = 47%
D Sedin – 1/2 = 50%
H Sedin – 9/12 = 75%
Bertuzzi – 12/16 = 44%

http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20052006/FC020620.HTM

The tying goal came on a 6 on 3. The OT winner was a PP goal, from a phantom call even the announcers couldn’t find on the replay. I think the Flames would have won in regulation with a veteran officiating crew. Bert’s slashing penalty in the first period was not a penalty, is was a show of his strength. Both teams had a goal called off, and there was lots of crap after the whistle, which tells me the boys didn’t quite know what would get called, and what wouldn’t. So that was win #1 against Alberta teams this year, I think the ‘nucks are 1-7-3 against the Alberta teams. The refs did everything but put a bow in it for the Canucks.

Thanks for the stats... the Canucks did well in this game OVERALL as a team, but lost many of the CRITICAL draws... like with 1:15 to go, CRITICAL faceoff on the 6-3 and Yelle wins it clean from Bertuzzi and kills 30s off the clock... it's a miracle they eventually end up scoring and winning in OT.

There is NO WAY you should lose a draw when you're up 6 on 3... the sure way to win is the tie up the other center and let your wingers SMOTHER the other center and eventually get the puck. It's basically 1 winger takes up 1 of the opposing dmen, the other opposing dman is usually back so you don't have to worry about him... and then send in 1 or 2 of your wingers(since u have an extra attacker) to either DOUBLE team or TRIPLE team the other center to dig the puck out... simple... Bertuzzi tries for the clean win and loses... what a dumbass.

I can't believe he was actually 44%... when I started watching the game in the 3rd, he lost 4 draws in a row, including that critical one late in the game.

Next Draw Morrison wins it and it eventually led to the tying goal.

You sure that was correct? More like lost 12 of 16... = 25%... maybe he won 12 in a row and I just watched at a bad time? When I saw him, he lost 4 in a row.

12/16 or 4/16 as you put it still dosen't make 44%, ask for a calculator for next Christmas!;)

The best faceoff man in the NHL for the past few seasons has been Yanic Perreault, currently playing for the Nashville Predators. The Habs didn't even bother to try and resign him - one of the few mistakes Bob Gainley made since becoming the GM of the Habs.

Anyhow, the latest in the rumor mills has the Habs trading Theodore for Bertuzzi and possibly Auld. What do the Canucks fan think of this rumor?

I'm sorry I missed the game last night...i heard it was good but once again Vancouver was lucky to win..Oh well not surprised at this point...I;m still waiting for the shoe to drop...Anyway..the rumor is Theodore for Big bert and Aulde....I don't like that at all...I THINK the habs definetly would prosper from that....Theodore isn't a consistant goalie himself. And besides....compared with other goalies that are out there......Ahh.I bet there are other prospects.....I hear Marty Brodeur is on the block to....that would be a dream to have him...even if he is ....what 34 years old or so...he still has a good couple of years left...I do realize that to bring a high caliber player ...sometimes you have to give up a good one too...myself...for some reason...I wouldn't give up on big bert just yet....I would give up others other than him...Marcus and big bert I would keep for sure...also Matt Cooke..anybody else....up for grabs..

I don't think Bert will prosper in Montreal at all. If he thought the Vancouver media was tough, he ain't seen nothing yet. He better get used to twice the amount of reporters and mics in his face after every practice asking him questions in English and French. Having said that I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat if I was Bob Gainley and the offer was on the table.:)

Jury still out on the Canucks. That game was decided entirely by the refs. How many games have been ruined by these phantom calls? Nucks came to life in the 3rd, but another lousy start. They still haven't shown they can win on the road. Still think Crawford and his favouritism are the source of their probs. Bertuzzi and Naslund refuse to backcheck and he never calls them on it.
