Nervous beyond anything else I have ever done in my life. Or rather is it scared??? I am going to get the tattoo on my right ankle. How SCARY???? Is it???

Oh definitely tequila is on the agenda :)

I will try to find a "close" representative of my tattoo... Online... But it's my own "artistic" drawing...

Feedback??? Scary? Nothing to it??? AHHHHHHHHHHHH

I had mine on my shoulder, so it probably wasn't as bad as someone having it done on a bony area as Alexandria stated. To me, it felt like having someone pinch me over and over and over and over and over again, really fast. It certainly does hurt, but I was able to get through it. And I don't think that I'm a tough guy with a high threshold for pain. I don't think you really need to be scared of anything.

Around the early 90's when the trend of hairstyles was long on top and shaved in the sides and back, I wanted to grow my hair long enough to ponytail then get a chinese dragon tattoo on my head from ear to ear. I would let my hair down in front of my parents (since they would freak out if they saw me with a tattoo), then tie my hair into a ponytail to expose the tattoo when I'm out with friends. I chickened out because 1, it was going to hurt like hell! 2, I was afraid my parents would cut me off their will. 3, it may not look cool when I'm past 40! Lastly, I was also afraid that my hair would not grow back because of the tattoo.

After more than 10 years, I'm planning to get a palm-sized tattoo on my back just below the shirt neckline. I am currently designing it and will get feedback from my more artistic friends before I actually have it tattooed on my back. I have a picture of it but I do not want to post it since someone else might use it. If I were to place something permanent on my body, I want it to be my original artwork.

Alexandria, which tattoo parlour do you recommend in Edmonton? Can you give a review of the guy you plan to visit? I just want someone really good and would need lots of advice to take care of the tattoo since I am known to easily produce keloids (scars) from the tiniest wounds.

Don't get drunk Carlotta, it thins your blood and you will bleed more which pushes the ink out and obscures what they are seeing.

My recommendation is to see a female tattoist, in my experience with both, the woman had a gentler/lighter touch which didn't hurt at all.

If one area gets too sore, tell her, and ask if she can do another spot and come back to that one in a bit. That really worked for me as I only found it painful when an area became raw from overwork. As Alex said the good news is the minute the work stops, the pain stops.

CHILLAX!
dont go into it anxious it wont help. I say do a shot or two(dont get drunk)just to relax, then go with it..enjoy your time..get to know your artist..make conversation. you`d be surprised how quick it`ll go.

I wouldnt say its painful ..more bothersome.I cant really liken it to anything Ive felt before but I can tell you that after that first one I became addicted and now have 9.

I will recomend that you go to a reputabe artist with a good reputation(ask a friend whos work you admire).I always ask the artist to sterilize the needle/s in my presence..if they claim they already are or wont do it for me...I go else where!

Have fun with it!

The Dutchman is a good tattoo specialist to get a tattoo from. I hope that he hasn't retired.

Those celtic designs are bullshit. Most people who have them don't have a clue what they are putting on their bodies, and furthermore they probably have no real idea whether they have any celtic blood in them. What a joke.

If you get a tattoo, get something meaningful, like a big swastika on your forehead.

Most importantly, do not go for the trendy tattoos. The thing is permanent, trends come and go. A few years back, not sure how it all started, women suddenly thought that the kool thing to do was to get a wide design tattoed on their lower back, just above the ass crack. And it was kool. Back then. It was the flavour-of-the-week. Now there are sooo many of the things, the women simply come across as mindless bimbos that hopped on the bandwagon. No originality. But I'll tell ya what I do like. At a concert last night, I saw this cute little asian spinner, dressed real classy in a long dress, looked very formal. The dress hung off of one shoulder, leaving the other one bare. When she turned around, there was this little black tattoo of a butterfly on the exposed shoulder blade. wow! It was totally unexpected. But the appeal was that it took away the innocent, good-girl first impression that I had and revealed a rougher edge to her. It made me interested in her. I guess as far as getting a tattoo, sometimes the classics never go out of style, like the butterfly for this woman. And originality can make all the difference.
