One of the greatest play by play men in the NBA passed away yesterday suddenly, Don Poier a guy who I've spoken with before passed away in his hotel room a few hours before the Memphis Grizzlies were to play the Denver Nuggets in Denver. He was one of the nicest guys in Vancouver when the Grizzlies were in town, and one hell of a play by play man, and I still loved his play by play work when the team moved to Memphis. Terrible loss to the Grizzlies organization.

He was by far the most respected and well liked member of the Vancouver Grizzlies while they were here in the 6 seasons, and is also one of the best announcers our city ever had, he brought passion and excitment to ever single Vancouver Grizzlies game, my folks had season tix to the Grizz during their 6 seasons here. With all the garbage Michael Heisley, Dick Versace , John McCaw, Stan McCammon, Bill Laurie, Steve Francis, Othela Harrington pulled on this city and franchise, Don and Jay Triano were pure class and they were an excellent team on the radio & tv. http://www.nba.com/grizzlies/news/release-050121.html

It was depressing to watch the Grizzlies lose, and just as sad to watch them leave town, Don Poier was the bright spot in the Grizzlies organization.

He and Jay Triano were a great broadcast team.

Rest in peace Don. :(
