I would like to find a soldier today, and shake his hand buy him a coffee,
tell him thanks,

But I think they have been told not to wear the uniform,

...how about "her"..? They can wear the uniform, just have been told not to use transit, or stop anywhere, .....Timmy's, school, gas stations...etc. Also, when driving don't wear your beret, or as in my wife's case, her balmoral.......

But I think they have been told not to wear the uniform,
That senseless killing of Cpl Cirillo is beyond my comprehension, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.
May he R.I.P.

I also heard or read somewhere that military personnel should not wear their uniforms today. That I don't understand or agree with. Are they suggesting that because there is fear that some other nut job may shoot another soldier ??????

That can't be the reason, 'cause I know our men in uniform have more back bone and courage than that. Just think of the thousands of men and women that go overseas to fight other countries problems, and put themselves in the line of fire each and every day. And as we all know, sadly some of them lose their life over there. May they all R.I.P.

And if 'fear' is the case for not wearing uniforms, what message does that send to any other 'would be killer' of soldiers ?????...I hope that's not the reason.

I think it should be just the opposite. EVERY military person, past or present, should wear their uniform proudly today, in honor of Cpl Cirillo.

(Maybe somebody has more knowledge than I do of why no uniforms today - and can enlighten me.)

Check your closet..:)
Sometimes the media pisses me off. What about the soldier Warrent Officer Patrice Vincent that was killed the day before. Sure looks like he died in vain. Oh yea I forgot he wasn't in Ottawa.

Patrice Vincent, 53, served with the Canadian Forces for 28 years. (Department of National Defence)

Victim a long-serving member of the military

The deceased victim, Vincent, 53, was a 28-year veteran of the Canadian Forces. He had been stationed at bases across Canada.

He was posted in North Bay, Ont., until 2012 as a “refrigeration and mechanical technician wing construction engineer.”

He had also served as a military firefighter. Two of his former colleagues told CBC News he was a quiet man who loved cycling and largely kept to himself.

"He was very friendly, very compassionate individual," said Dwayne MacIntosh, who worked with Vincent for three years on HMCS St John’s.

"He would do everything for you and always went out of his way."

Couldn't agree with you more............maybe if the police hadn't done their job as well as they did....let him get away so he could hole up somewhere, bring in the ERT, put on a big show............not much interest in a car upside down in a ditch, no matter how or why it got there.

Read my previous post.....and my wife just left for work.............wearing her uniform.
Thanks for the info, uncleg, --- sorry -- I didn't read your post before I posted mine.

Allow me to direct you to your post #10 in the "Shots Fired At Parliament Hill", and I quote:

"Going to be an interesting day at work for the missus. They got word of increased security concerns about two weeks ago, now this. Probably going to stop wearing her uniform to work for awhile."

Operative word "probably".......had previous situations where orders came down about not wearing the uniform in public, which is why I said that. This time around, that hasn't happened, just the previous mentioned restrictions. In her case, she just said "fuck'em" and unless there are orders posted to the contrary she'll keep wearing it. Bit nervous about Nov.11 though......everybody going to be kind of exposed.

Although it's true that Nov. 11 will be a nervous day... it's also VERY necessary to go through with ALL planned events because we can't show the terrorists that Canada is afraid of them. Especially our armed forces.

I worked for DND many years ago and they weren't allowed to go out in their "Work dress", they had to wear their Garrison uniforms when going out. Every time my boss went out to get supplies he had to change his clothes. Not sure if this is related or not.

It is so sad to see a man who volunteered his times to work for the Reserves to have his life ended this way. So very sad. May both these men rest in peace, and condolences to all their family. I share these same sentiments for all our lost soldiers and their families. My brother was a medic who saw his best friend get shot right in front of him in Kuwait way back. I cannot imagine what type of bravery it takes to do the job they do, and the tragedy that they and their families face. Thank you to all our soldiers.

You have got to be kidding...........really. How can you even think it's related ? Work dress/Garrison dress were two types of uniforms issued to be worn under different circumstances. Either way/one there was no question that you were in the military. What's going on now, not wanting the troops to wear uniforms off base is to keep them alive, to make sure they are not targets for the next nut job that's talking to Allah or whatever voices are in his/her head. Not sure if it's related ?????

I haven't read every piece of every news story out there and what is being referred to as "Uniform". I was simply making a statement that I know there are restrictions on what can be worn in public.

With apologies to Ms Erica. I'm sure this is not where you wanted this thread to go.

^poignant, and brilliant.

I was moved to learn today that many veterans are donning their uniforms to stand at cenotaphs across the country.

There was a sadness in this country today and else where.

People discussed it at work so intensely the receptionist had to tell them to be quiet.

Complete strangers came up to me at work and told me they were depressed about it, disturbed about what happened.

In Texas a few Canadian Flags were flown and a little boy questioned how could you shoot a soldier at a war memorial.
