Unfortunately for much too long the media and the government have depicted the sex trade as being ridden with drugs, pimps and taking place out on the street. It would be quite refreshing for once, if one picture was shown of women working indoors, given that is where the majority of sexworkers now work. Street prostitution, although still in existence has been greatly reduced over the years throughout Canada due to the fact that it is a more riskier environment, which no-one is in denial of. However, that is a risk that some choose to take and high risk possibilities come in a variety of "jobs", driving your vehicle comes with risks, that's realism.

It's quite interesting when reading commentary from news articles that the general public is of the consensus that there are no sexworkers currently working and living within their neighbourhoods. If you live in any major city where there are high rise condo's, I can guarantee that there are sexworkers living in your building, your friends building and your family's building. Whenever a massage parlour, mini brothel have been raided or a sexworker has been murdered, people are in utter shock over the realism that they had "no idea" those "activities were going on" or that the "sexworker was actually a sexworker." Is it so implausible that sexworkers want to live in a "normal environment?" Is it so implausible that they want to provide their family with the same luxuries that you have?

The perpetuation of pimps and drug use have been widely exaggerated, certainly it does exist, we do not deny that. However, if you work for someone other than yourself, you are indeed being pimped and prostituted, even if you are self employed you are being pimped and prostituted, you are exchanging money for providing a service. If you or your spouse married for financial gain, guess what? You have been pimped and prostituted! Our industry is no different, except for one thing, we sell sex, but we do not all have "pimps" per se, the majority of sexworkers are independent and choose to be independent because they do not want hand over their money to someone who has not rightfully earned it. And why should we?

I frown and smile a little, every time someone makes a comment about how we are an industry ridden with drugs and drug addicts, I smile because it is an absolutely ridiculous claim but I frown because that is how the majority of society depicts us. Non drug using sexworkers are a lot more prevalent now than the public has been led to believe and they simply choose not to partake in that lifestyle for whatever reasons. Honestly, if you can tell us one industry that drug use has not impacted, we may just solely own that all drugs are strictly in sexwork, I would not count on that though, as it is simply just not true. Almost every major corporation has some sort of plan or benefit package for "rehab" or "treatment" for their employees, it just is not made public, like it is in our industry, because our industry is so "taboo."

I frown and smile a little, every time someone makes a comment about how all of our clients are perverts, nerdy fat geeks that have succumbed baldness, no teeth and couldn't pick up a woman if they tried. Our clients come from variety walks of life, shapes, sizes and ethnicities. They work in every possible industry you can think of and Terri-Jean Bedford was not making a false claim about politicians seeing sexworkers, they most certainly do and I am not certain as to why the general public sees that as an implausible notion either.

I am more than certain you have seen stories of politicians getting busted seeing sexworkers and you have without a doubt seen celebrities getting busted with sexworkers. It is a lot more common than you have been led to believe. To be frank, Peter MacKay reminds quite a few of us sexworkers and our clients, as a disgruntled pooner, a john, to put it in laymans terms. Almost everything about him and his attitude towards sexworkers screams a disgruntled client. He is just so vile and angry with every word he speaks about sexworkers, although he comes across that way about anything he personally is not in agreeance with. It is quite sad actually to be that full of anger and hatred all the time towards people.

The last few things some sexworkers would like to address are, where all the jobs going to be created for sexworkers if Bill C-36 passes? As it stands right now, a lot of sexworkers have degrees and certifications in a variety of fields and can not find employment, a lot of people across the country can not find decent employment. Until that happens, how can you put thousands of sexworkers out of work? I am most certain you the average taxpayer want additional burdens for welfare, programming that does not work and is run by a bunch of religious fanatics and man hating feminists.

"God will save us all and the world does not have enough man hating feminists as it is." These are the women and men that are in opposition to our freedoms as sexworkers, they want to convert us into religious fanatics and neo nazi man haters. Some of us have been to their organizations or have had the "pleasure" of being in their presence at sexworker events and initiatives, although some claim not to hate men, then why are men being targeted specifically in Bill C-36? "Because all men are evil, perverts." Again, another well misinformed stereotype that has been prepetuated throughout the history of sexwork. Men victimizing women.

In closing, before you take a "PRO Bill C-36" stance, ask yourself a few questions. Do you want to be pulled over in a car with a significant other that you are dating and questioned about your relationship? Do you want to be able to go out to the bar and pick up someone and not be questioned about your relationship with that person? Bill C-36 is not just about sexworkers I am afraid, it applies to all of you, if you have not done your research on it, you are most certainly missing some very important aspects. You are giving Peter MacKay the right to dictate what goes on in your bedroom and in your sex life. Bill C-36 is not about sexwork, it is about, we the people surrendering our rights as human beings so the government can dictate what our sex lives can and can not entail. Don't be fooled we are just being used as a platform so they can pass this bill.

This is a long and well written note that describes the situation faced with this bill. I actually can't believe that your conclusion about this law affecting the privacy of all Canadians so closely parallels my assessment which I have written about before. This bill is an all encompassing morality law for all sexual activity between unmarried adults. Well written
