POLICE ARE ASKING local sex workers to take extra precautions after a body was found in Surrey's Hi-Knoll Park on October 31.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has identified the victim as Lisa Ann Zielke, who was 41 years old. Foul play is suspected.

"Lisa Ann was a drug dependent Sex Worker who was actively meeting with clients and strangers in the Surrey area," reads a poster distributed by police. "Police are warning women who are engaging in a similar lifestyle to use extra precaution when meeting with individuals and clients that are not known to them."

According to police, Zielke was last seen alive when she got into a vehicle on October 30 at 6:15 p.m. in the 9100 block of King George Boulevard. Her body was found in Hi-Knoll Park with several pieces of furniture, including a brown sofa bed and a wooden table and chairs.

"Investigators believe that the timeline of when Lisa Ann was in the park is very close to the timeline that the furniture would have been dumped. The individual(s) who dumped the furniture may have information about her death and police are looking to identify and speak with them," Sgt. Jennifer Pound said in a news release.

Police are asking anyone with relevant information to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

An autopsy has been conducted on Zielke's body, but the toxicology results are not yet complete.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
there are on-going murders of on street workers in surrey. several women were found in a simlar location ie- a dead end road/ body dumped in a ditch....killbrook road they call it.....

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Wh...case+Surrey+Colebrook+Road/9042332/story.html

that is not to say they're all not related.

here's another...http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...e-victim-ask-for-publics-help/article1606998/

and 2 more....

http://www.thewesternstar.com/News/...stitute-killer-makes-brief-court-appearance/1

and this one which still affects police officers i know personally.... 3 more women.....

i know its hard to live with this threat from multiple directions and that it makes many of us feel unsafe. this is why we felt we must act and brought the charter challenge. some people here feel we should have shut up and left "well enough" alone well, for me all these murdered and missing people are not a situation which is "well enough".

i understnad that now clients are facing criminalization under the nordic model and that it makes them feel afraid, well imagine how we feel. there are not "cleint serial killers". there are not dozens of unsolved client murders in the lower mainland.

we will fight recriminalization under the nordic model and will defend our clients to the end but regardless of the outcome, people must understnad that we had to act....and this is why....

And this is why I will only do incalls, in my home, where I am 99.5% certain I can be safe all the time. This is why, random gentleman from 2 weeks ago, that there's never an amount big enough for me to want YOU more than I want to follow my rules. My rules have purpose: they make me safe.

Good point..I am sure if clients were being targeted and murdered as happened with famed female serial killer Aileen Wournos their would be immediate action...It is sad to see that we as a society do not act when sex workers are being targeted. I don't care what you do, if you are a drug addict using sex as a means to pay for your habit, etc that does not give someone the right to simply "snuff" you out of existence like so much garbage. Hopefully something will be done about this, and soon.

susi could you clarify? did the law change, so now clients in canada are being criminalized? when did this happen?

And this is also why I always say NO to outcalls! I cant imagine why any sane non-drug dependent non-desperate woman would ever do outcalls...doesnt make any sense, unless they had no way of getting an incall and did outcalls only, but SPs who do both in and out that just doesnt register with me, why would they take such a risk of getting pranked and wasted time, or something horrible like this.

Susi can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that only Conservative Party Public Policy has changed. just because Stephen Harper wants to be able to instantaneously change Cdn law to reflect his own narrow-minded Evangelical Christian viewpoint, our legislative branch does not allow that. At least, it didn't when I used to teach 5th grade Social Studies....he may have changed the laws while I was recovering from my nervous breakdown and I might have missed it! :confused:

yes the law remains the same but police across canada are given 'discretion' in how they apply the law so instead of arresting wokrers on street for example- in vancouver no street workers have been arrested in 4 years- they focus on "john stings" a female officer poses as a worker and entraps clients into a communitcation charge. communication for the purpose is illegal.

this especially amongst RCMP who are directed to act by ottawa/ consevatives/ harper and on how to interpret the law. they are also instructed that all sp's are under control of some one else and are victims. this leads to the "raid and rescue" tactics which are intended to arrest workers for their own good. they are taught that we will lie about being exploited so even if you don't have a pimp they will not believe you and treat you like a victim....crazy....

so no, the law has not changed but the conservatives new position statement reflects enforcement trends across canada and a new focus on a nordic style of polciing prostitution.

on the other hand the NPD have adopted a much more progressive position as follows....

WHEREAS Canadian values include respect for human and labour rights of all persons, including the right to life, liberty, security, equality and freedom of expression and association as set out in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;

WHEREAS an unacceptable number of sex workers in Canada have experienced extreme violence, murder or have become ‘missing persons’;

WHEREAS the current legal framework has caused many Canadian communities and neighbourhoods to experience tensions, conflicts and disruptions – often pitting neighbour against neighbour;

WHEREAS adult sex workers have the right to live and work in conditions that are safe, healthy and free from violence and discrimination;

WHEREAS social science and public health research in Canada has found that criminalization of adult sex work endangers sex workers and deprive them of the means of preventing coercion and violence, as well as constituting a barrier to sex workers’ ability to protect their safety and health;

WHEREAS Canadian courts, the Parliamentary Subcommittee on Solicitation Laws and the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry each concluded that criminalization of sex workers increases the violence perpetrated against them.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the federal NDP will:

• Advocate for the rights and safety of sex workers;

• Work with all stakeholders to end exploitation and violence;

• Condemn the countless number of assaults, murders and ‘missing-persons’disappearances continuing to be perpetrated on Canadian sex workers;

• Recognize that the current legal framework places sex workers in unacceptably dangerous situations;

• Within the above framework, oppose the enactment of legislation that prohibits the purchase or sale of adult sexual services given that evidence shows such laws increase the risk of violence and other harms to sex workers;

• Work, in consultation with sex workers, affected communities, police, justice officials and other stakeholders to identify and repeal those sections of the Criminal Code of Canada pertaining to adult activities involving sex work that undermine the rights to life, liberty, security, health, equality and freedom of expression and association of sex workers; and carry out this work through an evidenced-based, human rights, and labour rights approach.

• Call for a federal strategy that encompasses prevention, education, harm reduction, and safety for sex workers and affected local communities, including safe exit strategies, addressing critical issues that affect the freedom to choose one's work, including conditions of poverty, discrimination, inequality, poor housing and under/un-employment.
