The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, in conjunction with the New Westminster Police Department, are asking those individuals that are involved in sex work to be extra vigilant following two suspicious deaths in New Westminster, BC.
The first incident occurred on August 12, 2013 just before 10:00pm where a 45 year old female, a known sex worker, was found deceased.
The second incident occurred on August 25, 2013 where a 48 year old female, a known sex worker, was found deceased.
Both women were found inside their residences within the same apartment complex in the 200 block of 11th Street in New Westminster. They resided on different floors, however, they did know each other. It is also believed that both women were locating their clients on-line through various websites and on-line escort agencies.
As these deaths appear to be suspicious in nature and foul play is suspected, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called and is the lead agency.
It is believed that these two deaths were deliberate and not random. Autopsy and toxicology results with be required to determine the cause of death but it is an investigative priority to advise those individuals, engaged as a sex worker, to be aware of the potential risk they face as it is unknown, at this time, if sex workers are specifically being targeted.
