Hello Vancouver and visiting ladies!

I figured I would alert you all of this scam artist, who I got 'burned' by on my recent trip to Vancouver.

Goes by the name Daryl
Can be found as @dangerousd5 on Twitter
Email: [email protected]
Ph.#: 604-2*2-7380 (posting full # on C---.ca)
Description: 40's/possibly early 50's but looks early 40s, tall (6'2-6'3), stocky athletic built, blondish wavy hair down to his shoulders, blue eyes, wears rectangular glasses, missing a bunch of front teeth (but may wear some false teeth to cover that up.) Claims to be of German descent.

'Daryl' started following me on Twitter, and expressed an interest in getting together with me at the earliest opportunity in Vancouver. 'Daryl' has this whole persona built up; claims he is a Vegas billionaire, who spends his time between Vancouver, Vegas, and the Cayman Islands. Claims he flies by private jet, and on Twitter, various times alluded to boating 'on his boat' off the coast of Vancouver.

Claimed over Twitter, and in a couple of longer, well-articulated emails that he was looking for an exclusive travel companion/sugar baby. He even sent me a picture of himself. Happy to send it to any ladies if you PM me.

I was planning on being in Vancouver anyway for an event, and made plans to meet with Daryl on the Saturday night I was in town. He said he would get his 'EA' (exec. asst.) to send me a deposit for the date, but as the date approached, he kept saying how he wasn't sure what time he would get back 'from Vegas', but that he would contact me as soon as he was back. Then on the Friday, he claimed he actually flew in earlier 'from Vegas', so we made plans to meet on the Friday night 'for drinks.' He promised me $500 for Friday, and 'more to follow' on Saturday.

Met with him on the Friday night -- very convincing act. Claims he is a former NHL player, who additionally inherited properties in Germany from his grandmother, as a result finding himself wealthy at a young age, which allowed him to become an owner in MGM Grand in Vegas(!) Again, very convincing story and delivery. Very charming. He even had a story as to how he lost his teeth -- jet-skiing accident he claimed; further claimed that he was allergic to the anesthetic so the dentist could only fix his teeth slowly...riight. He did pay me the $500 over drinks.

I was under the impression that we were only meeting for drinks that night, so I was surprised when he suggested that we go back to my hotel. Normally more money was owing, and in other circumstances I would've asked for additional money up-front. But he had me woo'd and convinced with his story and act, and against my better judgement, we went up to my hotel and spent at additional 2-3 hours of private time there. Claimed he was going to give me more money the next day (riight.)

In the end, he owes me at least $500 for what turned into a 'dinner date' type date, minus the dinner.

Over the next couple of days, he claimed to be stuck in the Cayman Islands due to 'tropical storms'; and claimed that he 'wired me' the remaining $500. Riight. As if you can wire any funds without a person's full info including account #. A couple more days of continuing his BS of being stuck in the Cayman, and then in 'Oklahoma City' (Lol!) I had to call him on his BS and told him that he was nothing but a scam artist. He's stopped texting me.

In a freakish coincidence, I got contacted on Twitter by a non-industry Vancouver woman whose account does seem legit, who told me that she'd been lead on with sweet promises of a glamourous lifestyle by this same Daryl guy for ... 5 years! But that in 5 years of knowing him, she never saw any boat or plane of his, nor had they ever travelled anywhere!

Real life sure is stranger than fiction sometimes.

The woman's story did seem legit, and a lot of the details checked out (description, his claimed ethnic background, his lifestyle allegations -- boat, plan, Cayman Islands), but even if that sounds so unbelievable, all I know is that I got cheated out of $500 by this guy.

Not only that, but I had come to Vancouver on such short notice in part because of this guy's promises that if we liked each other, we would spend a few days 'on his boat' and at his place. Instead, I found myself 'high & dry' having to advertise last-minute availability in Vancouver -- which was not the most profitable thing -- as some of you ladies may already know.

It's not the first time I get scammed by a professional scam artist either in this business :( I got 'taken' once before in Florida by the 'supposed' drummer from a big-name band, and his 'manager' -- another very convincing scam/act that you can read all about on the National Black List.

Ladies, there are professional scam artists out there who prey on our industry, because they know we are unlikely to report their theft/scam to police, and even if we did report, that there would hardly be any recourse :(

Please let my story serve as a warning for you to be extra-vigilant, and keep asking for money up-front. If something sounds TGTBT, be on your guard.

I would be so curious if any of you have had any dealings with this 'Daryl.' A Google search did not reveal anything, but I do believe he has other supposed 'sugar babies' in Vancouver (women that he's lying to.) And I have some better idea now as to how he may have lost his teeth(!) You can only go around scamming people for so long, right?

Next time anyone tries to fleece girls by saying they own any of the MGM resorts international resorts (public company) a little light reading for you all ..... next time google these clowns ,,,,,

MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) is a Paradise, Nevada based gaming and hospitality company. It is the second largest gaming company in the world by revenue - about $6 billion in 2009. It owns and operates 15 properties in Nevada, Mississippi and Michigan, and has 50% investments in four other properties in Nevada, Illinois and Macau, China.[2][3]

The company became MGM Mirage on May 31, 2000, with the merger of MGM Grand and Mirage Resorts. In the mid-2000s, growth of its non-gaming (lodging, food, retail) revenue began to outpace gaming receipts and demand for high-rise condominiums was surging, with median property prices in Las Vegas twice the national average.[4][5] The company shifted its business model from fully owning and operating resorts and casinos, to being more real estate focused - launching the massive Citycenter mixed-use project.[6][7] Unfortunately, the latter's development coincided with vast overbuilding on the Strip and a global financial crisis, causing large losses and writedowns in valuation.[8]

In June 2010, the company changed to its present name, to reflect its latest strategy of expanding worldwide, including licensing its brand and expertise to develop non-gaming hotels and residences. Through 6 global offices of its subsidiary, MGM Resorts Hospitality, it has agreements to develop and manage nongaming Bellagio, MGM Grand and Skylofts hotels in countries such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, India, Vietnam, Egypt and China by 2013.[9][10][11]

Billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian and his Tracinda Corporation were, until May 2009, the majority shareholders of MGM Mirage; Kerkorian was the former owner of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer movie studio, from which MGM Grand derived its name. Following a one-billion-dollar stock offering by MGM Mirage amidst the global credit crunch, Tracinda's shares were diluted from 53.8 percent to 39 percent.[12][13] In May 2010, hedge fund Paulson & Co acquired 40 million shares (about 9%) to become MGM Resorts’s second-largest shareholder.[10]

WOWZA, sorry to hear all that came to fruition.

Just goes to show you how dedicated some guys are to conning beautiful visiting young ladies.

Guys, we do not want to sound like money-grubbing bytches, but just think of stories like this when we ask for the money up front.

I would never hold weight to any lofty claims made from a man (or men) I had never met.

Sorry this happened, Alanna. Sounds like it was a very difficult lesson to learn.

Thanks for your feedback everybody. I clearly could've done a better job of screening this guy. Mind you, I was planning on being in Vancouver anyway for a conference, but I would've been wiser to just plan my trip without counting on this guy's promises & ludicrous claims.

milfhunter, he only made the MGM Grand claim over drinks -- had I required his verifiable employment information at the time of booking, as our US counterparts usually do, I wouldn't have found myself in that situation. That being said, I'm sure it took you some digging to find that whole useful bit about MGM Resorts and subsidiary MGM Grand. Thanks for the educational bit in any case ;)

I usually do require a deposit to secure 3-hr+ bookings regardless of the city. This whole trip was more last-minute than I would've liked, as my dates were tied to this conference.

And aside from this guy and 2-3 other WOTs/not serious callers, I did meet some nice gentlemen on this trip (thank you!, you know who you are :)) I also managed to find time to meet with my Vancouver-based videographer for a mini-shoot -- which I hope turned out well ;)

Thanks again everybody for your advice & support. My next Vancouver trip will be better planned, and I do look forward to meeting more of the nice gentlemen of this city :)

xoxo,

In terms of screening, why not ask them if you can run a credit check on them, either that or have them provide you with one along with photo ID.

Just a thought that spang into my head as I was reading this thread.

I've heard the Florida one over the past few years. Many people make promises, or talk big. Some of those are real, and those are the ones who won't have any problem giving you a deposit up front. Everyone else should be ignored after it is clear they are not coming through with that deposit, or until they do.

I am glad that you did get paid the 500 though, I was thinking that you might have gone through with the idea that you'd get paid for your time. I would say that he is using the promises in order to get more for less obviously, and that some sps would go along with the idea that if they offend or ask for the $$ for the additional time up front they might jeopardize the allure of the vacation or longer term arrangement. Of course this guy counts on that happening.

Someone who is an experienced client who understands that trust is earned and not given just on a promise would have happily paid in advance for the extra time without a problem.

Hi everybody

Just a quick update on this Daryl guy. A well-established Vancouver independent SP emailed me to report she too had had a couple of meetings with him, both as part of a duo with another SP. She reported that he was using the same story. Her screening requirements are more stringent, and she did verify the identity of his supposed EA (who could've well been one of his 'sugar-babies.') No deposit was required at the time of booking since they were local appts.

She recognized 'Daryl' from the picture I provided. She confirmed that there were no issues with this guy beyond the push for free time (that is bad enough if you ask me); she also acknowledged that his story hardly seemed to have any foundation in reality.

Just posting this to let you ladies know that he is indeed a Vancouver local, and that you may expect to hear from him in the future.

lol former NHL player, you can easily verfiy that. pretty bad game this guy has.

should always get payment up front and buy your own tickets always, because carded/fraud tickets are available everywhere. i would hang on to a bank wire for at least 3-5 days too before withdrawing it just in case that's a fraud wire too.

I received this update from a reliable source:

"After some investigation including using geo-locating software on his public tweets we have ascertained this male is a resident of the Lower Mainland with connections to New Westminster. We have also broken down his timeline and it is clear most of it is fiction. He was not regularly traveling to and from Las Vegas. The location of his tweets indicate otherwise and the timing was simply impossible.

Given the nature of human beings to be predictable, we suspect his last name begins with H and he was born in 1963 as indicated in his email. People have a tendency to demonstrate predictable repetitive behaviour online. If you search "dangerousd5" you will also discover many links to a Canadian who uses this handle. It is highly probable that this individual has issues with women and may be a potential threat, especially if the control is taken away from him."

I Googled "dangerousd5" and got this page of results, and one of the links is to his Twitter convo with Alanna, so I'm guessing this intel is legit.

.... well, I for one am shocked to learn all of this detailed new information... and I think we will all sleep better now that this mysterious character is all but completely exposed

oh... wait, no, sorry... I thought she was doing the blatantly obvious sarcastic request for new information in this case... ok, actually not really.

Contrary to popular opinion most millionaires and billionaires are some of the cheapest people around. They understand the value of a dollar, their time is usually more important than yours.
They are generally self serving loathsome individauls. However that said some do good things for the greater comunity at large. Setting up large endowment funds or contributing money for the greater good. Bill gates springs to mind.
Well, I guess they would make shitty clients for SPs then.

I have seen Darryl for a few multiple hour liaions ~ but every session was paid for in full and before our meeting.

He ALWAYS tries to get time off the clock. Often in interesting and sometimes in amusing ways. It's just a game for him, but as long as you stick to your ground and don't take any crap from him, he will respect you.

(I'm really sorry that you were taken advantage of ~ and that is NOT acceptable! The and the only reason I am mentioning that he has been fine with me is in case other ladies want to see him. He is fine, both in public and in private. Just make sure you GET PAID IN FULL BEFORE....or immediately upon meeting.

I have never felt threatened by Darryl in any way. He sticks to the same story (ex NHL player, ex owner of the MGM, current owner of numerous casinos on Paradise Island, private jet, multiple yachts etc.).

He's a megalomaniac, but as far as I can tell, pretty harmless otherwise. His stories, while obviously wildly inaccurate, are colorful and interesting.

Get paid first, and assume that anything he says or promises is simply fiction, and you should be fine.

I know at least one companion who spent days trying to make arrangements with him as a sugar daddy. Hours spent talking, emailing, meeting for drinks etc. All off the clock, with the promise of a great monthly allowance etc. I think that is closer to what his game is. Promise the world, and see how much time or action he can get just based off of false promises.

He also MAY be trying to scam in other ways. His assistant called me up once to ask if I could run her card for $1000 and then go bring him the cash as he had lost his wallet. At the very least, that would be a way of him looking for some free social time......but could have been an attempt to do an actual scam, charge back or something else.

Usually real millionaires don't brag about what they have.
I run from people who try to prove what they have with words.
But that's just me
Me too, Miss ESz, I like to go by people's actions, not their words.

How many guys have I seen, who have dropped by on a weekly basis for 2-hours. That's wealthy enough for me, and I'm super happy that they're enjoying themselves enough to come back...over, and over, and over again!
