I saw this article in The Independant
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/porn-stars-and-the-naked-truth-8348388.html

Female porn stars are psychologically as healthy or healthier than other women, according to a new study, which challenges widely held views about women in the adult entertainment business.

Adult entertainers were found to have higher self-esteem, a better quality of life and body image, and to be more positive, with greater levels of spirituality. They also had higher levels of sexual satisfaction and, perhaps unsurprisingly, many more partners than other women...
I wonder if the same would transfer to SP's. Society doesn't seem to be so judgemental towards porn stars.

I don't buy that. A few years ago I was interested in what sort of people did porn, and paid particular attention to what they said/how they behaved in the before/after parts of their shoots, in interviews, in posts they made on boards, how they exited the business and what they had to say for themselves afterwards.

One thing that immediately struck me is that allthough they come from all sorts of backgrounds and education levels, the vast majority were not like average women. I suppose you could see that as good or bad depending on your perspective.

Substance abuse appears endemic in the community and many of them do not appear to be particularly stable. This is just an observation from looking at them as people, not from a study.

Bipolar disorders appear especially common in the community, but that is probably the same for most entertainers. I think it goes with the territory.

I don't think there is a correlation with either poverty or abuse. While some came from desparate or abusive situations, most apparently did not. Lots of women who are not porn stars come from those situations as well, so I dont think you can argue that is a reason.

There were the barely literates, those are there of course, but plenty of them are college graduates as well.

I tend to agree, I think you can paint any picture you want to suit your agenda.

The documentaries I have seen don't paint all that rosy a life on pornstars.
And I would think the opposite there need to pose nude or do porn I think means they have a low self esteem and body imagine. I mean look at all the fake boobs out there, if your body is so great why would you need a boob job.

Watching the playboy channel for a couple months, I got the impression the girls were pretty shallow. I mean they thought they were so pretty or so special, and were just dieing go be picked for playboy and they based there whole sort of self esteem on there appearance.
To me when your whole self esteem is your appearance well its not a well rounded individual.

And I have met a view sp's that are spiritual but it wasn't any mainstream spirituality, it was sort of a hodge podge of things weird believes and ideas. I think they had to create there own spirituality invent one because well no mainstream religion or believe sort of believes in what they do.

I think christianity accepts prostitution but doesn't really embrace it.

And I would say its hard to have a normal stable life when your an escort.
Long term ladies I mean ladies that have been in this for decades have worked it out they seem happy and content with there life as much as any one, friends family.
You know lots of people have messed up lives.
What is a normal life any way.
