they were healing but now they are seeping and he is chewing his tail and paws til they are bloodied and occasional trembling. he cries like a human baby in his sleep and is extremely clingy .hes always been affectionate but now he just plows through anything an d pushes against me for maximum contact he is depressed sand lethargic ...i had a housecall vet come see him as no taxis in w rock will take himmand i dont drive anymore. cost me 400 + for me to be told take him to a vet i dont know whats wrong. there is no way i can afford all this its important that he gets medical attention..but i dont have any more money to waste on quacks. are any of you guys or gals a vet or know of a sympathetic one that will allow me to pay in installments? im so distressed to see him suffer but i dont know what to do

There are vet clinics that will allow you to make payments, did the housecall vet not leave or tell you to get a cone for him to wear so he can heal? If you encourage "pet him" go down to his level "feeling sorry" for him it will only encourage and teach him that there is nothing wrong and it's okay for that type of behaviour... Hence he will always do that for your attention, have you taken him for behaviour training?

Also if the dog needs medical attention and you neglect to take him your at risk of being charged are you not?

oh he is extremely well behaved thats why im concerned ! he never whines or cries (until now) he doesnt even bsark when other dogs bark! if i run late in getting homme he does not make waste in the house he painfully holds it until i come home. once when he was sick with the runs he did ,....but in the bathroom right beside the toilet.

Sounds like a healthy well behaved dog, but a behaviourist may help with the clingy problem as you may be encouraging it without knowing.. I hope you take the dog in and get attention as it was recommended and sounds like he needs it.

Why did you choose a pit bull?

I have always felt that the last people on earth who shouldn't own pitt bulls, own pit bulls.

A dog's temperment changes after it's been in a fight, there are many reasons why I recommend a behaviourist "although the dog's been good so far" it may be more incline to snap around other dogs now that he's been in a fight..

my dog and the dog that atttacked are sitting here beside each other. the one that attacked him is caring for my babies wounds ...MY DOG DID NOT FIGHT BACK he was trained that way because of peoplesc attitudes towards pitbulls
! it was simply t2wo alpha males that were being slowly integrated and some jerk left the doors open and they got out . this not the issue if you want to be biased against pitbulls and judge the owners kindly create a new thread my dog is sick and i will not waste any more time defending him or myself to people who already have set opinions<

Why your getting defensive towards me I'm not sure, I said nothing about the breed "I happen to own 2 large breed dogs" but simple trying to point out to a clueless owner "pointed out by someone above" that professional help may be required at some point!

How many times do you think an "alpha male" will not fight back, and do you know what to do next time when he does?!

Hey I also appologise, I happen to love ALL breeds and know the feeling of people judging my dogs "deemed aggressive" by the general public.. Although they are bullied by a 2 year old and never been in a fight!

I'd be foolish to believe it's not possible and this is a good reason for a dog to switch..

Good luck again

i just want to know if anyone has immediate medical advice because at present his behavior is the least of my concerns he is sick and in pain .if these behaviors continue when he is well of course i will get help for that. my problem is that a so-called vet took most of my cash on hand and did nothing but say i should bring him somewhere and his symptoms are worsening.i desperately need some advice on how to ease his pain, help him until i can get him to another vet or hoping against all odds that one of the members might b a local vet who could at look him on credit or some home remedies perhaps.im open to suggestions and thank you rhydogg yours is all sound advice and non judgemental ; again i apologize for jumping down the wrong throat

I really don't know anything about pitbulls. But can relate to a similar situation. You see, I have a 12' salt water crocodile as one of my pets. Now don't go judging breeds or anything. I know they have sharp teeth, scary looks, powerful jaws, etc, but they are really mis-judged by the general public. She is the sweetest, most warm and loving crocodile I have ever known. She has never attacked anybody without provocation, or even made a nipping motion to the many people who lovingly try to pet her. She loves to get her belly rubbed, and she gets a good healthy meal 4 times daily, so she is never "hungry" outside the house. I talk to her and share my feelings with her every chance I get, and can see the caring acceptance in her big brown eyes. One day we are out walking (swaying in a carefree afternoon sun) at a local playground recently. One of the youth's there also happened to have a young saltwater crocodile as a pet and of course his croc came over to check out my croc. Well pretty soon his croc and my croc started nosing each other but I guess his croc made an irregular move or something because all of a sudden both crocs started hissing and yawning at each other. I saw that on Crocodile Hunter once, but never ever in our neighbourhood before. The youth tried to pull his croc away but it was too planted in the playground sand and so the tall boy came around the front to try to pull it slightly forward and sideways. That was not smart because both crocs instinctively reacted aggressively to someone coming between them and one grabbed his arm and the other his foot. Unfortunately both appendages were removed from his body. Of course we called 911 right away and the paramedics were able to stop the bleeding and save his life. But what a dummy getting between two crocodiles that are peaceful creatures and just getting to know each other. Why would he do that? People are so probelematic sometimes. My crocodile suffered a number of scratches in the scuffle, and one of them became infected. Wow, that cost me a $700 vet bill! I think people need to wake up and be more accepting and responsible around other people's pets.

You have a very odd sense of humour, young man...

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to your pet(s), Miss C...how terribly traumatic. I believe you're located in Surrey and I don't know anything about the animal care centres out there. Various friends in Vancouver swear by Atlas, but I know it will be very difficult for you to get there. I sincerely hope that a miracle presents itself to you soon.

they were let out of the house by someone we werre keeping them apart to slowly integrate them and someone opened all the doors and they were gone for quite a while they came out of the woods together best buddies
were both dogs leashed when out walking?
ps..i am situated on 5 acres so even had they been outside in a fenced area why the need to have them restrained on a leash !just as little boys have a fist fight in the playground and walk away best friends so did these dogs i dont condemn the dog that attacked either; cant even for sure say that he did! the dogs disappeared into the woods and one came back injured , now they go everywhere together and the one that is ok lays and cleans my babies wounds and whimpers softly til they sleep
