Get the Galaxy Nexus --- the sell it at mobilicity contract free for $300 --- and get a world phone, unlocked, and with the latest Android software which is much better than the iphone! You can use this phone worldwide and put any sim you want in it.

on Siri... Google Now is in the latest version of android which the galaxynexus will have and it is as good and probably better than siri. google is flexing some muscle.

Google and Apple are such frenemies, I love it.
Everyone knows Google and Apple make out in the utility closet like the world was ending. :D

I was on the iPhone (original, 3gs, 4) but just recently got a Galaxy Nexus and made the switch - seriously, Android 4.1 on this huge fantastic screen (a phone that is still lighter than the iPhone, but 4.5" screen) is smooth as glass and I like being able to customize the way the phone looks instead of just having a row of icons. It is also unlocked, and a world phone so I can use it on almost any service available in Vancouver (popping in burner sims!) as well as the US and Europe. I have a T-Mob chip i use in Europe and this phone works flawlessly. $300 at mobilicity contract free and unlocked, for this phone is a deal

Steve Jobs’s biographer says ‘thermonuclear’ anger at Google was real

By Dan Graziano

Walter Isaacson, the man behind the authorized Steve Jobs biography, said while speaking at the Royal Institution on Wednesday that he disagreed with Google CEO Larry Page, and Jobs’s hatred for Android was real, Macworld reported. In an earlier interview, Page indicated that the Android, Apple feud was just “for show” and merely a way to rally the troops. The CEO mentioned how he “had a relationship with Steve” and despite his declining health at the time, Apple’s co-founder reached out to him for a casual talk. Isaacson, however, outlined why Jobs felt such “thermonuclear” anger towards Google’s “stolen product.”

Isaacson explained that Jobs believed in a closed system, where Apple controls the hardware along with the software. When Microsoft founder Bill Gates took Apple’s graphical user interface and licensed it out “promiscuously,” Jobs was livid and as a result, “Microsoft ended up being dominant.” When Jobs returned to Apple as its CEO, he again focused on a closed system, which found success with the iPod, iPhone and iPad, “but what happens? Google rips it off,” Isaacson said.

The biographer continued, “It’s almost copied verbatim by Android. And then they licence it around promiscuously. And then Android starts surpassing Apple in market share, and this totally infuriated him. It wasn’t a matter of money. He said: ‘You can’t pay me off, I’m here to destroy you.’ ”

Isaacson believes that Apple CEO Tim Cook will handle things differently than Jobs would have. “Tim Cook will settle that lawsuit,” he concluded.

I would say only if the new iPhone supports LTE. Rogers, Bell, and Telus have rolled out theirs in major centres. Not sure about the other players in Canada.

Apple is being pressured by Korean Networks to have LTE on their next gen of iPhones because their android competitors all have it already. Should be easy since Apple have it on the iPad 3 now.

Personally I have an android and I am still quite happy with it. I have used iPhone 4S's and although they are pretty good the iPhone 5 would have to be a lot better to make me switch from android.

Adobe no longer accepting new installs for Flash Player on Android

News by Andrew Kameka on Wednesday August 15, 2012.0 Comments

If someone tries to install Adobe Flash Player on an Android device today, there's a good chance that person will be unsuccessful. The same will happen every day because Adobe now blocks all installations of Flash for Android unless the device has previously installed the plug-in.

Adobe announced last year that it would cease all development for mobile versions of Flash. The company then revealed in June that it would not support Android 4.1, and it would block new devices from installing Flash Player on August 15. Adobe has followed through with those statements and started limiting access to Flash Player from the Google Play Store.

Since it decided to abandon Flash for all mobile devices, Adobe has attempted to phase out Flash Player on Android. The company has not supported pre-loading the software on new devices, and said that it will only update Flash with critical security patches for existing devices. Adobe has warned that phones upgrading to Android 4.1 may "exhibit unpredictable behavior," so its likely that Flash will fade away once users upgrade or stop using the 78 percent of Android devices that are currently compatible.

The next time you update an Android device or get a new phone don't be surprised if Flash Player suddenly stops playing. Just cross your fingers and hope that the Flash content you wish to see quickly becomes the HTML 5 content that you can actually see.

Flash is dead, Apple won the argument and even Adobe is abandoning it on mobile platforms. So buying an Android phone because it can run "Flash" today isn't enough reason to not to buy an iPhone. HTML 5 is the new standard.

I only have an Android phone because I have an account with Mobilicity. If they were to get the iPhone then I would dump it without any reservations.

Wow... I can't believe there are people here who have actually broke free from the Cult of Apple?? Was it scary?? Did they send some Men In Silver after you folks? I'm glad you made it though. You shall be held up as shining examples of what can be done if you just let go! Wll done! :clap2:

I've never have or ever will own or endorse an Apple product for the reasons mentioned in the book quoted in this thread. Job's arrogance, greed and lust for total control/profits held Apple back for so long the others are passing them big time. Can you say BlackBerry or doesn't anybody remember them? Android will almost for sure be the dominant phone OS if it isn't already. I've had an Android for years and love it.

I am generally blind to brands. I just like things that work. Right now the Galaxy Nexus works good for me. I even got rid of my notebook after getting this and just bought a cheap bluetooth keyboard to use with it when I have to powertype. The iPhones are all locked down to carriers (in my case Rogers), and I find it offensive they want to charge me $50 to unlock a piece of hardware I bought and paid for. The Galaxynexus works for me because it is unlocked, it has more different radios in it to work in europe and the states and I can easily share my data plan with my tablet or my notebook when I still owned it without any additional costs.

The only downside to buying a google product in canada is you dont get google music or magazines. But there are ways around that (register a new gmail account when you are in the states, sign up for google music and it is enabled for storing your music on the internet).

and if you read more carefully, phones that have adobe flash player installed will get update. so ics update to jelly bean should have adobe flash player. i agree the html 5 is the new standard. but most sites are still using flash. and even android phones and tables are html 5 capable. so still no need for apple. apple just wanna be number 1.

"so its likely that Flash will fade away once users upgrade or stop using the 78 percent of Android devices that are currently compatible."

The problem with Android is that it is so fragmented with phones and tablets running 3 different versions of the OS + manufacture skins + plus carrier bloatware. Updates take forever and depend on whim of the hardware manufacture and carriers to decide.

Only the Google Nexus / Nexus 7 run stock Android 4.1 and they don't support Flash.

Adobe & Google have said Jellybean won't support Flash, nor will any of the future versions of the Android OS.

most people get the oem firmware. so fuck the network operators. network operators don't usually update your phone even though you requested it, especially here in canada.

This is the main reason I will never buy another Motorola phone so long as I live in Canada... After being forced to root my phone and flash custom firmware onto it just to enable tethering, which the OEM version of Android for that phone in Canada did not support, I am done with that company. Their customer service outside of the States is not so much poor, as it is nonexistent.

the firmware here applies to all brand. meaning all the phones (apple, samsung, motorola, etc) you buy from any network here in canada will never get update. this totally violate the rules of competition.

"Rooting" your Android solves lots of little problems and open up many options to the user. Everything from deleting bloatware, moving all your apps to SD card or even installing updated or custom ROM. It was a very easy process for my HTC. I highly recommend giving it a shot. Just remember to BACK UP everything first in case things go sound. The process for Apple is call "jail braking".
