I recently read a book I think many of you might enjoy. "Red Light on the Prairies" by James H. Gray
http://www.amazon.ca/Red-Lights-Pra...7697/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1344898809&sr=8-3
It's about the history of prostitution in the prairie provinces (AB, SK, MB), in the late 1880s, early 1990s, when the prairie towns were just starting out. Even though it doesn't talk about BC, it's really interesting, and if you like history you'll really love this book. He also touches on prohibition a bit too.
I found it particularly interesting that in some ways we've progressed a lot, but in others they were more progressive back then! lol. It was really neat learning about what society and sex work were like then. Definitely not what they taught us back in school
